Position Summary:

The Variable Data Specialist is responsible for preparing and integrating personalized data into print layouts for direct mail campaigns, ensuring accuracy and compliance with client specifications and company standards. This role involves interpreting complex data files, setting up dynamic content for print production, and applying personalization principles to optimize output on digital and offset printing equipment. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in data processing and layout tools are essential for success in this fast-paced environment.

Primary Job Responsibilities:
  • Produce complex data and layout work in conformance with customer requirements and Japs-Olson quality & productivity standards using a variety of software tools.
  • Participate in problem-solving and decision making for production departments for DP-related issues.
  • Work closely with Sales and Customer Service to meet client expectations.
  • Provide advanced capabilities to service challenging projects.
  • Achieve familiarity with as many accounts as is practical through cross-training.
  • Serve as a resource and subject matter expert for specific clients, processes, and/or procedures.
  • Know and understand USPS requirements and regulations.
  • Follow management system procedures, 5S and Standard Work instructions.
  • Follow document control procedures (if applicable).
  • Serve as a mentor and trainer to other Variable Data Specialists and departments.
  • Preflight and optimize files for 4-color variable print production.
  • Supply files to print on multiple 4-color variable output devices (inkjet & toner).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Programming degree or completion of industry specific work.
  • Minimum 4-5 years of proven experience in direct mail data processing to include data hygiene and variable document composition.
  • Knowledge of computer programs used for data processing and direct mail letter set up such as Quadient Inspire, BCC Ignite, XMPie, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, postal software and others.
  • High level proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator).
  • Knowledge of digital print processes (inkjet & toner).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
