Job description

Title: Database Architect
Location: St. Paul, MN

Position Summary:
Abbott's Electrophysiology (EP) R&D organization generates an expanding volume of clinical, imaging, mapping, and outcomes data that serves as the foundation for next-Generation AI/ML solutions. To accelerate innovation, we are seeking a Data Operations & R&D Data Management Manager to lead the strategy, processes, and infrastructure that enable secure, scalable, and compliant use of data across the product development lifecycle.
Overview:
Lead the strategy, governance, and operations of clinical, imaging, mapping, and outcomes data to support AI/ML innovation within Abbott's Electrophysiology R&D organization.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and enhance scalable data platforms using Azure, Databricks, and cloud technologies.
  • Oversee data acquisition, ingestion, quality, governance, cataloging, lineage, and lifecycle management.
  • Ensure datasets are secure, compliant, audit-ready, and accessible for R&D and AI/ML teams.
  • Partner with Clinical, IT, Engineering, physicians, and external vendors to support data initiatives.
  • Drive data labeling, annotation, and dataset preparation for AI/ML development and validation.
  • Establish governance processes aligned with FDA, GxP, HIPAA, GDPR, and corporate policies.
  • Manage stakeholders, vendors, project timelines, and data operations activities.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Health Informatics, Biomedical Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in data management, data operations, data engineering, or clinical data environments.
  • Experience with large clinical, imaging, or healthcare datasets.
  • Knowledge of data governance, metadata management, data quality, and cloud platforms.
  • Proficiency in SQL and exposure to Python.
  • Strong communication, project management, and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in medical devices, healthcare, life sciences, or regulated environments.
  • Familiarity with EP, cardiac mapping, imaging data, DICOM, HL7, and FHIR.
  • Experience supporting AI/ML, MLOps, data annotation, or model governance.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Purview, Collibra, Alation, and FDA/21 CFR Part 11 compliance.
