Reliability Engineering Department

The Reliability Engineering Team is responsible for the overall operating health of critical systems across Vantage global facilities. For each of the major systems Electrical, Mechanical, and Controls, the Reliability Engineering team is responsible for ensuring success in the commissioning stages of new construction, evaluating and improving the reliability and performance of existing critical infrastructure, sustaining equipment operational availability through maintenance program design, providing ongoing technical support to the Site Operations Teams, as well as providing systems reliability and maintainability feedback to the Design Engineering teams for future design considerations.

Position Overview

The Reliability Engineer, Control Systems is responsible for the overall functional health of critical monitoring and control systems and acts as the Controls Systems Subject Matter Export in the Site Operations organization. This responsibility includes oversight of facility acceptance testing, control system maintenance planning, and Site Operations technical support.

Requirements for this position include full familiarity with control systems arrangements and control components for Power and Cooling systems from the field component to the integrated systems level. The controls SME understands the functions of direct control devices and logic controllers as well as the extended effects of failure of those devices in the larger context of systems automation. The controls SME has familiarity with sensors and monitoring devices and the ability to ensure data reliability. The controls SME acts as an advisor for Site Operations and has enough experience to guide technicians through effective troubleshooting. The controls SME regularly interfaces the Electrical and Mechanical Engineering teams, the Automation Systems Group, Software Development team and Site Operations teams.

This is a hybrid work schedule in one of our larger data center locations based anywhere in the US. One must reside close to a major airport for business travel.

Travel is likely once a month with potential for more as business needs arise. ~ 25% travel within US and Canada

Essential Job Functions

  • Design Verification and Testing:

    • Ensure control systems meet design intent and perform without issues during testing phases of new construction.

    • Review construction equipment submittals, identify potential deficiencies, and evaluate maintenance feasibility.

    • Attend factory witness testing to verify and validate equipment functionality.

    • Review site commissioning plans and ensure thoroughness of control system startup testing.

  • Maintenance and Reliability:

    • Design maintenance programs to maximize equipment operability and efficiency while minimizing lifecycle costs.

    • Design maintenance programs to minimize control systems maintenance complexity and reduce maintenance down time.

    • Perform system component upgrades to ensure reliability and combat obsolescence.

    • Develop risk management plans that will anticipate and mitigate reliability-related risks that could adversely impact plant operation.

  • Technical Support:

    • Provide full technical and troubleshooting support to Site Operations teams when responding to control system failures.

    • Provide system reliability feedback to the Design Engineering teams for future design considerations.

    • Analyze and process system collected data and recommend improvements to site operations and maintenance strategies.

    • Ensure data communications from monitored systems remain intact and data is properly collected and stored.

  • Collaboration and Training:

    • Work with Engineering and Construction teams to ensure the reliability of new and modified installations.

    • Design appropriate site response procedures based on potential control system failures.

    • Ensure Site Teams are proficient with Building Management Systems and control system operations.

    • Provide guidance and technical support to Site Teams as requested.

  • Root Cause Analysis:

    • Perform Root-Cause Failure Analysis and facilitate corrective actions.

  • Additional duties as assigned by Management.

Job Requirements

  • Education:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, or a related field preferred.

  • Experience:

    • 5+ years of experience with data center operations or related field ideally.

    • PLC programming experience with Rockwell Automation, Carel and GE systems.

    • Experience with Ignition HMI software.

  • Skills:

    • Modbus TCP/IP and RTU, BacNET and Ethernet/IP configuration knowledge.

    • Ability to read and interpret Electrical/Mechanical one-line diagrams.

    • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.

    • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

    • Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.

    • Problem-solving mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.

    • High level of integrity and professionalism.

    • Positive and proactive attitude.

    • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

    • Travel required is expected to be up to 25% but may increase over time as the business evolves.

    • Ability to travel internationally.

Additional Details

  • Salary Range: $135,000-145,000 Base + Bonus (this range is based on Colorado market data and may vary in other locations) Offers are determined on market and candidate experience/skillset.

  • This position is eligible for company benefits including but not limited to medical, dental, and vision coverage, life and AD&D, short and long-term disability coverage, paid time off, employee assistance, participation in a 401k program that includes company match, and many other additional voluntary benefits.

  • Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including your qualifications, skills, competencies, and experience and may fall outside of the range shown.
