Leadership Scope & Responsibilities

As Director of Maintenance, Facilities Operations, you will provide hands-on leadership for all facilities maintenance, engineering, plant operations, infrastructure reliability, regulatory compliance, and environmental safety activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct daily plant operations, facilities maintenance, engineering, grounds, and infrastructure servicesย 
  • Ensure reliable operation of critical building systems including HVAC, electrical distribution, emergency power, medical gas, fire protection, and life safety systemsย 
  • Serve as the Designated Site Safety Officer, overseeing facility safety programs, Emergency Management, ย compliance, and incident preventionย 
  • Lead preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and emergency response programsย 
  • Manage departmental budgets, staffing plans, and operational prioritiesย 
  • Oversee vendor performance, contracted services, and facility support operationsย 
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and development for a dedicated team of experienced facilities professionals while fostering ย ย ย ย ย accountability, teamwork, and service excellenceย 
  • Partner closely with hospital leadership to support safe, efficient, and compliant operationsย 
  • Maintain readiness for Joint Commission, CMS, NFPA, OSHA, and other regulatory standardsย 
  • Drive continuous improvement in reliability, safety, and customer service performanceย 
  • Promote a culture of professionalism, responsiveness, and operational accountabilityย

Requirements

ย Core Experience (Minimum Expectations) Director must demonstrate the following foundational experience:

  • Healthcare facilities, plant operations, or hospital engineering environment experienceย 
  • Working knowledge of hospital building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, life safety, etc.)ย 
  • Prior supervisory or leadership experience (team lead, supervisor, manager, or equivalent responsibility)ย 
  • Familiarity with healthcare regulatory environments including the Joint Commission, OSHA, and NFPA standardsย 
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work across operational and clinical teamsย 
  • Ability to manage priorities in a fast-paced, service-oriented environmentย  ย 
  • Ability to effectively communicate: read & write, in English
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Pass a drug screen & criminal background check; willingness to participate in hospital's required health screenings/immunizations
  • Must be minimum of 18 years of age

Preferred Background The ideal candidate may also have:

  • Current Facilities Manager, Maintenance Supervisor, or Assistant Director experience in a hospital settingย 
  • Experience in a specialty, community, or mid-sized acute care hospital environmentย 
  • CHFM certification or other technical/industry credentials (not required)ย 
  • Experience stepping into expanded leadership responsibility within facilities operationsย 
  • Strong hands-on background in building systems maintenance or trades leadership
