Job description

River Valley Foods in Syracuse, NY is looking for a Staff Accountant to join our finance team. If youโ€™re organized, detail-oriented, and ready to contribute to a fast-paced company in the food distribution industry, this role is for you. Our ideal candidate will be driven and eager to learn in order to develop a deep understanding of the company and its processes.

Schedule:

  • On-Site, Monday - Friday

Wages:

  • $26.00 - $28.00 per hour


Key Responsibilities:

Accounting & Financial Reporting

  • Prepare journal entries, accruals, and general ledger reconciliations
  • Assist in monthly financial statement preparation and bank reconciliations
  • Support budgeting and forecasting processes

Accounts Payable/Receivable

  • Process vendor invoices and credits accurately and on time
  • Maintain organized AP/AR records
  • Provide back-up support for Accounts Payable

Compliance & Audit Support

  • Ensure adherence to internal accounting controls
  • Assist in preparing schedules for audits and tax filings

Systems & Collaboration

  • Use ERP systems and Excel to manage and analyze financial data
  • Work with department managers to resolve discrepancies
  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes and improve reporting

Qualifications

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (required)
  • 1โ€“3 years of accounting experience (required)
  • Experience with ERP systems and inventory/cost accounting (preferred)
  • Strong proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities
  • High level of integrity and professionalism
