Location: Lt. Col. Luke Weathers, Jr. VA Medical Center - Memphis, TN
Position Type: Full-timePosition Overview
MDPerm is seeking a Board-Certified or Board-Eligible Psychiatrist to provide comprehensive onsite psychiatric services at the Lt. Col. Luke Weathers, Jr. VA Medical Center.
This position supports Veterans in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment, delivering care consistent with state-of-the-art civilian medical standards.Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Duties (95%)
  • Provide inpatient and outpatient psychiatric care
  • Conduct psychiatric evaluations, diagnosis, and treatment planning
  • Manage admissions, ongoing treatment, and discharge/transfer of patients
  • Provide follow-up care and consult services, including e-consults
  • Treat patients with severe and complex mental health conditions
  • Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation
Clinic and Program Support
  • Collaborate with VA mental health staff and interdisciplinary teams
  • Support specialty programs, including PTSD clinic, residential programs, and case management services
  • Maintain a consistent presence during scheduled clinic hours
Administrative Duties (5%)
  • Participate in peer reviews, case reviews, and quality assurance activities
  • Attend required staff meetings
  • Ensure compliance with VA policies and performance standards
QualificationsRequired
  • Active, unrestricted MD or DO license in any U.S. state
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification
  • Ability to pass federal credentialing, privileging, and background screening
  • Strong clinical competency in both inpatient and outpatient psychiatry
Preferred
  • Experience in VA, federal, or military healthcare settings
  • Experience treating complex behavioral health populations
Work Environment & Expectations
  • Approximately 6-6.5 patient care hours per day
  • Typical volume:
    • 6 patients per day (1-hour visits), or
    • 12 patients per day (30-minute visits), or a combination
  • Collaborative, mission-driven federal healthcare environment
  • Must adhere to VA Medical Staff Bylaws and clinical standards
Schedule & Work Hours
  • Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM (Clinic Hours)
  • On-call coverage required during evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Phone response required within 15 minutes while on-call
  • On-site response required within 60 minutes when called in
  • Weekend inpatient coverage as needed (8:00 AM - 4:30 PM)
