The Department of Biostatistics has an outstanding opportunity for a Grant Manager to join their team.
About this Opportunity
The Grant Manager is responsible for the post-award activities of their assigned research portfolio. In collaboration with principal investigators (PIs), sponsor agencies, research partners, and university research support offices, the Grant Manager ensures sponsored research awards are received, budgeted, and expended effectively and efficiently in compliance with all regulations, policies, and procedures.
This position is hybrid with two days per week of in-person work in the new Hans Rosling Center for Population Health on the Seattle campus. There is also a possibility for 100% remote work.
Key Responsibilities
Financial grant management (50%):
Oversee and manage financial and administrative components of sponsored research projects for the assigned research portfolio, including forecasting and tracking budget expenditures.
Provide support to PIs for non-scientific sponsored research project operations. Meet with PIs to review financial reports.
Serve as liaison for the assigned research portfolio with sponsors, subawardees, and central university offices, and departments.
Financial management (35%)
Manage outgoing subaward process for assigned research portfolio budgets. Prepare internal UW sub-budget requests and monitor activity of sub-budgets.
Prepare advance budget requests, extension requests and restricted carryforward release requests as needed.
Compliance management (10%)
Ensure that research deliverables are met; that projects comply with sponsor, federal, state and university laws and regulations, including requirements identified in award agreements; and that projects abide by UW financial management systems and controls.
Pre-award grant management (5%)
Assist and provide backup to the department's Pre-award Administrator for assigned portfolio projects, ensuring a timely and accurate proposal in accordance with all university, sponsor, and department requirements. Liaise with PI and project managers on proposal budget development, budget justifications etc.
Required Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or related field.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in grants management.
Additional Qualifications
Experience managing pre-award and post-award research grant activities, demonstrating extensive knowledge of federal grant and contract policies and procedures.
Ability to explain complex regulatory, budgetary, and financial information to people in a broad range of roles.
Skilled in using Microsoft Excel to create and use complex spreadsheets.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with NIH contracts.
Knowledge of University of Washington financial systems, fiscal policies and procedures, including those related to grants and contracts.
