Job description

Position Overview:

Looking for a fun, people-centered job right in the heart of UVA's newest and most innovative area? Join us as a UVA Welcome Desk Student Ambassador for the Emmet Ivy Corridor for Summer 2026. The Emmet Ivy Corridor is a vibrant new district connecting Central and North Grounds and home to the Virginia Guesthouse Hotel and Conference Center, the School of Data Science, and Karsh Institute of Democracy. This is where creativity, collaboration, and community come together and we want you to be part of it.

About the Role:

As a UVA Welcome Desk Student Ambassador, you'll be the friendly face that greets guests, prospective students and their families, alumni, and community members who walk through the doors of the Virginia Guesthouse. You'll help answer questions, share insider tips about UVA and Charlottesville, assist with events and social activities, and help make "The Living Room" a hub of energy and connection.

You'll work closely with the Program Director for the Emmet Ivy Corridor gaining real-world experience in events, community engagement, and communications, all while representing the best of UVA.

This position is for Summer 2026 and has the potential for students to work upwards of 40 hours a week.

What You'll Do:

  • Welcome and assist UVA visitors, conference guests, and community members
  • Share info about UVA, the Emmet Ivy Corridor, and local attractions
  • Support event setup and logistics (think socials, meetups, and community programs)
  • Answer phone and email inquiries
  • Help with daily desk operations and occasional special projects

Who We're Looking For:

  • Excited to share their love for UVA and Charlottesville
  • Previous customer service or event experience is a plus but not required. All majors and class years are encouraged to apply.
