Job description

Job Overview:
The UVA Arts Box Office is accepting applications for its Ticket Sales Staff positions for the upcoming semester. These positions provide customer service, cash and credit card handling, and ticketing services in our centralized box office, serving the arts departments and programs at the University of Virginia. Among the organizations served are the Department of Drama, Department of Music, Virginia Film Festival, Charlottesville Symphony, Tuesday Evening Concert Series, and various other events.
Qualified candidates will possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to organize and execute tasks in a fast-paced environment. Applicants must be detail-oriented, self-motivated, flexible, and able to work in a team situation.
Our Box Office Ticket Sales Staff will work approximately 10 hours per week out of the Arts Box Office during business hours (Tues - Fri from noon to 5:00 PM) and on evenings and weekends to support door sales at events. There may be opportunities to work up to 20 hours/week if interested.
Training will occur in early September. The Arts Box Office is located in the lobby of the UVA Drama Building at 109 Culbreth Road. You must be able to reliably commute to the Arts Box Office, Old Cabell Hall, and occasionally the MLK, Jr. Performing Arts Center at Charlottesville High School.
Eligibility: Applicants must be current, full-time UVA students. Students with Federal Work Study awards are also encouraged to apply.
Required experience and skills:
  • Excellent customer service and communications skills.
  • Extreme attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely.
  • Possess a positive, cheerful, and professional demeanor with both patrons and co-workers.
  • Ability to work both independently and together with co-workers.
  • Capability to think critically and to make decisions.
  • Ability to remain calm under high pressure and stressful situations.

Preferred experience and skills:
  • Prior sales and/or customer service experience.
  • Experience handling cash, processing credit cards, and reconciling sales.
  • An enthusiastic interest in working in the arts and in arts administration roles is welcome!

Compensation: $13/hr.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
