About the role
The Utility Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing facility systems to ensure safe, efficient, and continuous manufacturing operations. This role supports multiple maintenance functions including mechanical systems, utilities, and general facility upkeep across the plant.
Your responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, and repairs on manufacturing equipment and facility systems including HVAC, compressed air, water systems, pumps, and mechnical components.
• Diagnose mechanical issues and implement timely corrective actions to minimize downtime.
• Maintain utility infrastructure such as boilers, chillers, air compressors, piping systems, and related equipment.
• Assist with equipment installation, relocation, and modifications as needed.
• Repsonded to maintenance work orders and emergency repair requests.
• Read and interpret bluepreints, schematics, and technical manuals.
• Operate hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment safely and effectively.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations, company policies, and environmental standards.
• Collaborate with production, engineering, and maintenance teams to improve equipment reliability and effiency.
• Support continuous improvement and cost-reduction initiatives.

The experience we're looking for

• High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade school certification preferred.
• Currently hold City of Grand Rapids or State of MI boiler license required or must obtain license after one year of service
  • Candidates who do not currently possess the required certification may be considered provided they are willing and able to obtain certification within a defined period following hire or placement. Successful completion of the certification requirement is a condition of continued eligibility for the role
• 3+ years of experience industrial maintenance, mechanical repair, or utility systems within a manufacutring environment.
• Working knowledge of mechanical systems, pumps, motors, hydraulics, pneumatics, and facility utilities.
• Ability to troubleshoot mechanical failures and perform repairs independently.
• Ability to lift up 50lbs regularly.
• Prolonged standing, walking, climbing ladders, and working in confined spaces.
• Ability to work in varying environmental conditions including heat, noise, and industrial settings.
• This position operatos primarily in a manufacturing facility with exposure to moving machinery, noise, temperature fluctuations, and industrial hazards. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.

US salary ranges
$30/hour or more based on experience + $5k sign on bonus

The base salary range for this role will vary based on experience in job and industry, training and education, skills relevant to the position, and other factors permitted by law. In addition to the base salary, the position is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, which is subject to change each year.
