Job Description

AbbVie Bioresearch Center (ABC) in Worcester, MA is seeking a GMP Utility Engineer to join the Site Operations Utilities Engineering group.  This position supports the operation and improvement of biopharmaceutical water and steam systems, as well as related facilities and utility equipment.  The ideal candidate is a self directed engineering professional with strong technical knowledge who demonstrates ingenuity in completing assignments and the ability to work across related disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as subject matter expert for GMP utilities at ABC, including support for audits, regulatory inspections, internal quality risk management, and alignment with Global Abbvie Engineering.
  • Support ongoing operation and maintenance of GMP utilities, including procedures, documentation, inspections, and PM evaluations to ensure compliance with applicable policies and procedures.
  • Provide Engineering support for troubleshooting, repair planning and system reliability improvements.
  • Develop and review scopes, estimates, specifications and standards for utility related projects.
  • Support equipment installations or modifications, including shutdown coordination, oversight of contractor work, commissioning activities, and validation activities.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable policies, procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Plan and execute small to medium-sized projects independently.  Manage multiple concurrent projects while maintaining cost, scope, schedule, and financial targets.
  • Oversee design work of internal and external consultants, Creates/modified designs for intermediate problems.
  • Represent engineering on cross-functional teams and corporate task forces; may also support staff development and supervision.
  • Produces unique and cost-effective results. Analyzes complex interdisciplinary problems and identifies their impact; establishes probabilities; draws conclusions reflecting broad business needs.
Qualifications
  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering, science, or closely related discipline is desired, or equivalent technical experience plus demonstrated competence, with a desired 5+ years of significant engineering and/or operational experience. A post-graduate education/degree is desired, and may contribute towards the desired years of experience.
  • Has demonstrated competency within a discipline.
  • Possesses a strong technical knowledge and application of concepts, practices, and procedures. Works on problems of complex scope where analysis of situations or data involves multiple competing factors. Demonstrates judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.
  • Interacts well with diverse groups within engineering and maintains strong working relationships with internal and external collaborators.
  • Listens to and understands others' points of view and articulates tactfully and respectfully one's own perspective orally, in writing, and in presentations.
  • Works well with other engineers in a collaborative, fast-paced goal-driven environment.
  • Possesses interpersonal skills to negotiate and reconcile differences.
  • Has a technical background in health care, medical devices, pharmaceutical, biologics, or similar industries (preferred).
  • Has demonstrated competency with financial systems and in fiscal control.
