Hale Contracting, LLC is a family-owned site grading and utility contractor based in Williamstown, Kentucky. We specialize in site development, underground utilities, and grading projects throughout the region. We are committed to providing a safe, team-oriented work environment where employees can build long-term careers.

We are seeking a hardworking, dependable Utility Pipe Laborer/General Construction Laborer to join our construction team. The ideal candidate will have experience installing underground utility systems, including water, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer pipe. This position requires strong knowledge of underground utility construction, the ability to work safely in trench environments, and a commitment to quality workmanship.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Install underground water, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer pipe according to project specifications.
  • Assist with excavation, trench preparation, pipe placement, backfilling, and compaction.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, construction plans, and grade stakes to ensure accurate pipe installation.
  • Operate and utilize pipe lasers, transit levels, and other grading equipment to establish and maintain proper line and grade.
  • Perform utility locating and identify existing underground utilities before excavation begins.
  • Work alongside heavy equipment operators during trenching and pipe installation.
  • Install, cut, connect, fit, and seal pipe and fittings using proper installation techniques.
  • Assist with pressure testing, inspections, and final adjustments of underground utility systems.
  • Perform concrete forming and finishing work associated with utility installations when required.
  • Operate basic hand tools, power tools, trenchers, compactors, and other construction equipment safely.
  • Maintain a clean and organized job site while following all OSHA and company safety requirements.
  • Ensure proper trench safety practices, including excavation safety and trench shoring procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and crew members to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

We're looking for candidates who have:

  • Previous experience installing water, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer utilities.
  • Experience working with underground piping systems.
  • Proficiency using pipe lasers, transit levels, and grade equipment.
  • Strong digging skills with an emphasis on precision and safety.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, construction plans, and utility drawings.
  • Knowledge of pipe fitting, assembly, cutting, connecting, and sealing techniques.
  • Familiarity with utility locating procedures and underground utility construction.
  • Experience operating or working around heavy equipment such as excavators, backhoes, loaders, and dozers.
  • Understanding of OSHA safety standards, including excavation safety and trench protection requirements.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat and cold.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Valid driver's license preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with pressure testing underground utility systems.
  • Experience with concrete forming and finishing related to utility construction.
  • Experience operating compact equipment or assisting heavy equipment operators.
  • Proven experience operating heavy equipment including dozers, loaders, backhoes, excavators, forklifts, and pipe lasers in construction or oil & gas projects.
  • CDL is a plus but not required.
