Position Summary

The Field Engineer provides technical and administrative support for heavy civil construction projects. This role works directly in the field with the Superintendent and Project Manager to ensure construction activities are completed according to plans, specifications, and company quality standards.


Key Responsibilities

Field Coordination

  • Assist the Superintendent in coordinating daily construction activities.
  • Review project plans and specifications to ensure proper execution of work.
  • Support field crews by clarifying drawings, layouts, and construction requirements.

Layout & Survey Support

  • Assist with construction layout and grade verification.
  • Coordinate with surveyors to ensure accurate site control and elevations.
  • Verify field measurements and maintain layout documentation.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain daily reports documenting jobsite activities, manpower, equipment, and production quantities.
  • Track installed quantities for cost control and progress tracking.
  • Maintain project documentation including RFIs, submittals, and as-built drawings.

Quality Control

  • Assist with inspections to ensure work meets project specifications.
  • Identify potential quality issues and communicate them to project leadership.
  • Track material deliveries and verify compliance with project requirements.

Safety Support

  • Promote safe work practices on the jobsite.
  • Assist with safety reporting and documentation.


Requirements:

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
  • 1–3 years of experience in heavy civil or site development projects.
  • Understanding of grading, utilities, excavation, and infrastructure construction.
  • Ability to read and interpret civil drawings and specifications.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Willingness to work full-time in the field and travel to project locations.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions.
  • Ability to walk long distances on uneven terrain and active construction sites.
