POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Coordinates the detailing work required for pole structures from customer supplied or in-house designs. Scheduling/Reviewing the design and checking the work of other engineers. Ensures conformance to standards and provides accountability for design deviations based on engineering/manufacturing practices.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Manage the detailing required to manufacture a utility pole design.
  • Review/check the detailing work for accuracy to UMIC, customer, and/or Utility standards. Including cad drawings, and Bill of Material (BOM).
  • Interacts with Sales, Engineers, and other team members to ensure correct design requirements are being used and products are being built properly.
  • Communications with customers to gain clarifications and technical decisions when necessary.
  • Creates and checks in-house and vendor designs.
  • Verify layouts on all designs using AutoCAD, PLS-Pole or Solidworks to ensure manufacturability of the structure.
  • Ability to read blueprints, bill of materials, purchase orders, approval drawings and other customer submitted documents.
  • Performing problem analysis, design layout, and calculations on substantial variety and complexity.
  • Must be able to stay on tasks, understand company goals and customers’ needs to meet project deadlines.
  • Flexibility in daily job priorities.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS / ATTITUDES:
  • Must be reliable and ability to remain confidential.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft programs.
  • Must be thorough and detailed orientated.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to read blueprints, bill of materials, purchase orders, and other documents submitted by customers.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Experience with AutoCAD, PLS-Pole and Solidworks and ERP (Epicor preferred)
  • 3-5 years of experience in design detailing
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 20 pounds.
