Job description

Hygiene Coordinator / Dental Assistant
Friddle Dental — Alexandria, VA

About Us
Friddle Dental is a private, single-doctor family and cosmetic dental practice in Alexandria, VA. We're not a corporate office — we're a close-knit team that genuinely enjoys coming to work, treats patients like people (not production numbers), and believes a great day at the office and great patient care go hand in hand. Good hours, a fun and supportive environment, and a patient-first philosophy are what make this practice different.
Position Overview
We're looking for a Hygiene Coordinator / Dental Assistant to join our team — a versatile, personable professional who can move seamlessly between the front desk and the clinical side. This is a great fit for someone who likes variety in their day and wants to be a true utility player on a small team where everyone pitches in.
What You'll Do
  • Coordinate and manage the hygiene schedule to keep the day running smoothly and efficiently
  • Answer phones and handle patient scheduling with warmth and professionalism
  • Verify dental insurance benefits, explain coverage to patients, and assist with claims and billing questions
  • Take and process dental x-rays (digital radiography)
  • Provide chairside assistance to the doctor and hygienists as needed
  • Prepare and sterilize instruments and operatories between patients
  • Help patients feel comfortable and informed throughout their visit
  • Pitch in wherever needed to keep the office running like a team, not a assembly line
What We're Looking For
  • Experience with dental insurance (verification, claims, patient communication)
  • Experience taking dental x-rays
  • Chairside dental assisting experience
  • Comfortable answering phones and handling front-office tasks
  • A team player who communicates well and works well with others
  • Someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment but still takes time to connect with patients
  • Positive, adaptable, and reliable — someone who wants to grow with a small practice, not get lost in a big one
What You Can Expect From Us
  • A private practice — one dentist, no corporate red tape or productivity quotas
  • Good hours and reasonable work-life balance
  • A fun, supportive, low-drama team environment
  • A genuinely patient-centric approach to care
  • The opportunity to wear multiple hats and grow your skill set
