Job description

The City of Topeka's Utilities Business & Customer Services Division is seeking an experienced administrative professional to serve as their Office Specialist. This position is responsible for providing structured clerical support of considerable difficulty for Utility Accounts and Utility Billing. It will assign tasks, train staff, monitor progress, handle difficult customer interactions and resolve them accordingly.
What you'll do:
  • Perform a variety of administrative tasks as required for the division.
  • Assist in developing and updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Administer the e-billing program and tracks paperless accounts.
  • Work closely with Utility Billing and Meter Services sections to review exception reports and identify issues which prompt customer notification.

The ideal Candidate is:
  • Customer-focused with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experienced at de-escalating and resolving complex and challenging situations.
  • An effective multi-tasker with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Skilled in data processing, recordkeeping, and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications
  • A high school diploma or its equivalent required; an associate's degree in office management, office technology or related field is preferred.
  • Two (2) years of clerical experience is required, with one (1) year supervisory experience preferred.

Entry Rate of Pay: $22.26 / hour
