Job Summary:
We are seeking a reliable and motivated Kitchen Suppression Utility Apprentice/Trainee to assist our installation and maintenance team. This role will involve supporting the primary installer with fire suppression system installations, helping cover inspections, and performing smaller tasks as needed to ensure smooth operations. This is an opportunity to get paid training and licenses for future professional growth within the industry.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Installation Assistance:
    Assist the lead installer in the installation of kitchen fire suppression systems, ensuring compliance with manufacturer specifications, local building codes, and NFPA standards.
  • Inspection Support:
    Conduct routine inspections of kitchen suppression systems, helping to identify any issues and catch up on past-due work orders.
  • Maintenance and Repairs:
    Support the maintenance and repair of kitchen suppression systems, including exit and emergency lighting and portable fire extinguishers, as needed.
  • Coverage for Absences:
    Help cover inspections in the event of technician call-offs, ensuring continued service without disruption.
  • Shop Support:
    Occasionally assist in the shop with inventory or other tasks as required.
  • Documentation:
    Assist in maintaining accurate records of inspections, tests, maintenance, and repairs performed.
  • Training:
    As part of your role, you will be required to pass the Pre-Engineered and Fire Extinguisher state certification exams (training provided).
  • Compliance:
    Ensure compliance with all relevant codes, standards, and regulations governing kitchen fire suppression systems.
Qualifications:
  • No formal experience required, but familiarity with installation, maintenance, or repair is a plus.
  • Ability to interpret basic technical drawings, schematics, and specifications preferred, but not required.
  • Strong attention to detail, willingness to learn and earn licenses.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with the team.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to climb ladders, use lifts, and work at various heights.
  • Able to lift, carry, and move up to 50 pounds as needed.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and crouching throughout the workday.
  • Must have good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity for handling small components and tools.
  • Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment.
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces or outdoor environments as needed.
  • Requires occasional pushing, pulling, and reaching overhead.
  • Must be able to wear and properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Capable of driving company vehicles and transporting equipment or materials when needed.
  • Ability to remain alert and focused while performing detailed or repetitive tasks.
Compensation:
This is an hourly position, based on experience as well as annual compensation raises based on merit.
