Job description

Courier/Receiving Specialist (Temp Pool) Bargaining Unit: None Class Code: TEMP ROGUE COMMUNITY COLLEGE Revision Date: December 1, 2025 Hourly Rate $18.00 GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES: This is a temporary staffing pool for on-call employment in the Shipping & Receiving department for both Jackson and Josephine counties. The pool will remain open until June 30, 2026, unless the positions are no longer needed. Applications will be reviewed and candidates will be contacted and interviewed as positions become available

Typically, at the end of the year (or at any point we no longer have a hiring need for this department), we will close this pool and you will receive an email notification. This position transports mail, packages, and materials between RCC campuses; the primary work location is Redwood Campus (RWC). Performs receiving functions, including properly accounting for, tracking, and documenting deliveries and merchandise.

Performs appropriate follow-up for damages/defects and overages/shortages. Serves as backup for all shipping/receiving positions at all campus locations, as directed. Supervision Received Works under the general supervision of the Director of Auxiliary Services and Shipping/Receiving.

Examples of Duties - Essential Functions Performs warehouse receiving functions; properly accounts for deliveries and merchandise. Enters data into computerized receiving system, updates pricing and stocking information as appropriate. Receives deliveries by verifying items against purchase orders; inspects, checks, and records items received; determines whether inbound deliveries are accepted or rejected.

Delivers mail, packages, and materials between RCC campuses. Loads items into and unloads items from truck; safely operates college vehicle. Performs regular safety checks.

Loads and unloads vehicle/mail cart; delivers items to appropriate department or campus. Assists with loading and unloading of RCC courier truck. Coordinates with receiving staff to ensure timely delivery and routing of packages and support documentation.

Follows up on discrepancies including damaged merchandise and overages/shortages; notifies departments; schedules pick-ups and deliveries as needed. Enters data into computerized receiving system, maintains records, and coordinates paperwork with, Purchasing and Accounts Payable. Works with other departments and/or vendors, as needed to resolve any issues related to items received and to obtain information/documentation needed to complete the receiving process.

Separates and sorts mail and packages; processes all USPS outgoing mailings as well as UPS, FEDEX and other outgoing packages. Maintains necessary records of outgoing shipments. Operates postage meter.

Assists with inventory and stock control of supply vending machines. Performs end of month reporting duties as needed. Performs other duties as assigned.

Screening Criteria Minimum Qualifications Education - A High School Diploma or GED is required, plus a strong working knowledge of computers Experience - Minimum of two years' experience in shipping and receiving operations License: Valid Oregon Driver's License and proof of acceptable driving record Preemployment Screening: Completion of Criminal Background Check, work capacity and drug screen Preferred Qualifications One year of on-the-job driving experience Associate's Degree and Forklift Operator's License Only degrees received from an accredited institution will be accepted: accreditation must be recognized by the office of degree authorization, US Department of Education, as required by ORS 348.609. Final candidate will be required to provide official transcripts for required degree. Any satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience which ensures the ability to perform the essential functions of the position may substitute for the requirement(s)
