Service and Support Assistant 2 Non-Exempt

Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma and two-years (2) experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Job Profile Summary: Contributes to the efficiency of university operations by managing diverse functions, including parking and transit and strategic partnerships. Responsible for materials movement, event support, and delivering high-quality customer service to various university stakeholders.

Job Description: Performs manual and clerical duties related to shipping, receiving, inspecting, packaging, issuing and delivering a variety of materials, equipment and supplies.

Applicant must be eligible to work in the United States; ASU will not be a sponsor for this position.

Position Salary Range: $20.25

Essential Duties:

  • Receive, sign for, sort, and process incoming mail and packages from USPS, UPS, FedEx, DHL, Amazon, and other couriers.
  • Use receiving software and mobile devices to scan and track all deliverable items.
  • Drive ASU vehicles across multiple campuses, including areas with high pedestrian traffic.
  • Deliver USPS mail, interoffice mail, tracked packages from various shipping providers, Print Services jobs, and paper orders to campus departments.
  • Transport high-value equipment, laboratory supplies, office goods, furniture, and hazardous materials.
  • Secure cargo properly and ensure even weight distribution.
  • Operate material-handling equipment such as pallet jacks, hand trucks, and dollies.
  • Perform heavy lifting and movement of packages (20–70 lbs) on a daily basis.
  • Assist with loading and unloading trucks; verify and inspect incoming/outgoing items.
  • Perform required vehicle inspections per Federal and Arizona State regulations.
  • Ensure proper documentation, labeling, and placarding when transporting hazardous materials.
  • Follow all university, safety, and postal regulations.
  • Advise departments on best shipping practices, including packaging, cost, tracking, insurance, and preparation.
  • Process outgoing packages using shipping software according to USPS guidelines.
  • Process metered mail using IM5000 postage equipment in accordance with USPS regulations.
  • Prepares and processes bulk mailings and special mail projects.
  • Provide on-the-job training and guidance to lower-level staff.
  • Assist with problem-solving and workflow improvements within Mail Services.

Desired Qualifications: One year of shipping/receiving experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. Employee is required to possess a Class D Driver's license throughout employment.

Working Environment:

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled warehouse setting subject to extended periods of standing and walking moderate distances to perform work.
  • Required to learn and utilize a variety of software applications and technology equipment to perform key functions of the position.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 50 pounds.
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and through email.
