Job description

Position Status: Part-Time, Monday-Friday 11:30 am to 2:30 pm

Hourly Rate: $17.20

Location/Address: Minton-Capehart Federal Building, 575 N Pennsylvania St, Indianapolis, IN 46204

This position at Goodwill is a result of the AbilityOne program in partnership with Goodwill and the federal government, providing healthy operations and environments at local federal facilities. The AbilityOne program is one of the largest sources of employment in the United States for people who are blind or have significant disabilities. GCSI is one of about 500 non-profit organizations that provides employment opportunities in competitive, integrated environments at federal government locations.

The Mail Clerk (Clerical Support) is responsible for performing core mailroom and clerical support functions at a federal government installation through the AbilityOne program. The primary duty of this role is to sort, distribute, track, and process incoming and outgoing mail while maintaining inventory supplies and a clean, safe work environment.

Example Duties and Activities

  • Sorts incoming USPS mail and internal deliveries to the appropriate department, mail stop, or office location.

  • Delivers mail to designated locations and collects outgoing mail for external delivery.

  • Opens, reviews, and determines delivery points for inaccurately addressed or damaged mail returned by USPS.

  • Tracks incoming and outgoing mail and packages; verifies and confirms shipping information.

  • Signs for incoming and outgoing certified and registered mail.

  • Screens mail and packages that appear suspicious and follows established security and safety procedures.

  • Maintains an accurate inventory of mailroom and office supplies.

  • Reorders supplies when needed and communicates inventory status to leadership.

  • Receives, opens, and unpacks cartons of supplies; verifies invoices against items received.

  • Maintains the cleanliness of the mailroom and assigned work areas by performing light janitorial duties, including sweeping or mopping floors, dusting countertops, emptying trash, and emptying trash.

  • Performs routine organization and upkeep of mailroom equipment and workspaces.
