We are seeking Tamil Over-the-Phone Interpreters (OPI) to support our USCIS contract. Tamil is a critical South Asian language, widely spoken in India, Sri Lanka, and the global Tamil diaspora, and is often required for asylum and immigration cases.
Responsibilities
  • Provide real-time Tamil ↔ English telephonic interpretation for USCIS officers, applicants, and stakeholders.
  • Deliver interpretation with accuracy, neutrality, and confidentiality in immigration and legal contexts.
  • Adhere to USCIS/DHS interpreter ethics and compliance standards.
  • Handle both scheduled assignments and urgent/surge requests.
  • Participate in training, compliance refreshers, and quality assurance reviews.
Qualifications
  • Native or near-native fluency in Tamil and English.
  • 2+ years of professional interpreting experience (immigration, legal, medical, community, or government preferred).
  • Strong understanding of interpreter ethics, confidentiality, and cultural awareness.
  • Excellent telephone communication skills; ability to remain accurate under pressure.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident eligible for Tier 3/Tier 5 clearance.
