The Opportunity

Join our USAA Signal Fellowship Program and play a key role in driving critical business initiatives while gaining hands-on experience across the entire data lifecycle, from data governance to data analysis. This program offers a unique opportunity for military affiliates to launch a rewarding career in a data-driven role at USAA, setting you up for long-term success and leadership opportunities in data & analytics.

We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position is based in San Antonio, TX. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

What you'll do:

  • Execute challenging assignments in data governance, data engineering, and business intelligence, directly impacting team and organizational goals by ensuring data quality, building robust data pipelines, and delivering actionable insights.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to gather and analyze complex business requirements, translating business problems into clear data needs and actionable solutions.
  • Design, develop, and implement innovative technical solutions for data engineering and analytic systems, leveraging technologies to build scalable and reliable data infrastructure.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to streamline and improve data-related processes, contributing to increased efficiency and data quality.
  • Apply data visualization best practices using tools like Tableau and Power BI to identify key trends, patterns, and actionable insights, presenting data in a clear and compelling manner that aligns with Enterprise branding standards.
  • This program features strategically aligned rotational assignments designed to provide you with diverse experiences and build expertise across the entire data lifecycle. You'll have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects and technologies, gaining valuable skills in data governance, data engineering, and business intelligence.
  • Participates in structured career development, receives coaching and mentoring, and on-the-job training to foster career advancement within data and analytics at USAA.
  • Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

What you have:

  • Bachelor's Degree; OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • Or 8 years of military experience demonstrating collection and organization of data information for reporting and analytics solutions.
  • Or Advanced Degree (e.g., Master's, PhD) in mathematics, computer science, statistics, economics, finance, actuarial sciences, science and engineering, or other similar quantitative subject area and 2 years of experience in predictive analytics or data analysis.
  • Military veteran who has recently separated from the military with an honorable discharge.
  • Military service that includes 4+ years of experience in data & analytics, information management, data engineering, or software development implementing data solutions.
  • Basic working experience following data management practices and theories and utilizing tools to implement data management to address data management risks and concerns.
  • Experience developing deliverables that leverage business or military-equivalent platforms such as intelligence platforms, data management, Excel or SQL-based languages (e.g., Tableau, Business Objects, Snowflake, Hadoop, Netezza, NoSQL, ANSI SQL, or related).
  • Proven ability to build strong relationships and collaborate effectively with team members, stakeholders, and leaders at all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex data insights in a clear and compelling manner to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Understands the Agile methodology practice.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

What sets you apart:

  • 1-2 years of experience with SQL
  • Experience with data governance frameworks, data quality management, and data security principles.
  • Experience with cloud computing platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, and related data engineering tools.
  • Experience with ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes and tools for data warehousing.
  • Experience with statistical analysis techniques and tools such as R or Python.
  • Advanced skills in data visualization using tools such as Tableau or Power BI, with the ability to create interactive dashboards and reports.

Compensation range: The salary range for this position is: $85,040 - $162,550.

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
