The Opportunity

The Opportunity:

We are seeking a Military Affairs Representative I – The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience within the Army National Guard and/or Air National Guard and demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the National Guard's dual state and federal mission. This aligns to Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin region of the United States and the representative would be best to reside in that region. This individual should be recognized as a trusted leader and relationship builder with the ability to influence and engage senior military leaders, key stakeholders, and community partners across the National Guard enterprise.

This position requires the ability to work weekends and long hours, with at least 120 days of travel per year. Additionally, candidates should have experience in military community engagement, program development, and advocacy.

This role is remote eligible in the continental U.S. with occasional business travel. However, individuals residing within a 60-mile radius of a USAA office will be encouraged to work on-site four days per week.

What you'll do:

  • Meets with military installation senior leadership to build relationships and develop business opportunity events in support of military members and their families.
  • Utilizes and applies broad knowledge of USAA's full range of business products, services and business processes and programs available to improve relationships with leaders, members and prospects.
  • Serve as a resource to peers and team member including leading and training cross functional teams in the execution of face-to-face marketing and informational events.
  • Identifies and understands the intended goals of Military Affairs and USAA.
  • Works as a military subject matter expert with USAA lines of business and functions when access to military installations is required or when military expertise is essential to project success.
  • Deepens existing relationships with senior military leaders to optimize business opportunities on and off military installations.
  • Analyzes, identifies trends, and makes recommendations regarding market segments and effective resource utilization.
  • Collaborates with management and marketing to develop initiatives and programs to effectively reach members and prospects.
  • Plans and negotiates installation marketing agreement as part of the installation marketing plan and strategy; this includes marketing tactics, placement, and timely and relevant messaging.
  • Assist in managing installation marketing currency, creative rotation, and replacement.
  • Analyze past campaign performance and adjust approach as needed to attain Marketing agreement success/return on objectives.
  • Schedules and conducts Military Acumen Visits for USAA Leaders.
  • Participate as a subject matter expert on USAA wide teams.
  • Provides Military 101 training at New Employee Orientation and provides USAA Financial Readiness Training to ROTC Units and the military community.
  • Audits Military communications developed by the Association for employee education to ensure accuracy and USAA mission relevancy.
  • Represents all USAA lines of business and their products and services.
  • Dialogues with members provide feedback to senior management on issues, accolades and competitive intelligence.
  • Manages assigned program expenses within annual budget.
  • Contributes to employee understanding of critical aspects of military life and culture.
  • Resolves issues and navigates obstacles to deliver work products.
  • Ensure risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

Minimum Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree: OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • 4 or more years of experience engaging in the military community.
  • Possession of Military ID card required.
  • Understanding tactical, operational and planning, understanding of program development and project tracking, and ability to develop and understand business metrics.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word and PowerPoint and other software to develop analyses, charts and supporting documentation.
  • Meets and maintains all USAA safety driving requirements

What sets you apart:

  • 20 years of service in the Army National Guard and/or Air National Guard, including service at the State Joint Force Headquarters, Major Command, NGB, or equivalent level.
  • Experience serving as a senior enlisted leader, command chief, command sergeant major, first sergeant, commander, or principal staff officer with responsibility for strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, and organizational initiatives.
  • Extensive knowledge of the National Guard Bureau, Joint Force Headquarters structure, state military departments, Army National Guard readiness centers, Air National Guard wings, geographically separated units, Regional Training Institutes, and major training sites.
  • Demonstrated understanding of National Guard force structure, operational requirements, deployment cycles, domestic operations, state active-duty missions, the technician program, Title 10 and Title 32 authorities, and the unique challenges facing currently serving Guard members and their families.
  • Established relationships with Adjutants General, Commanding Generals, Wing Commanders, Senior Enlisted Leaders, Executive Directors, Family Program Directors, Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), National Guard associations, and other key influencers throughout the National Guard community.

Compensation range: The salary range for this position is: $69.920-$133,620.

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
