Job description

Job Overview
Fairview Health Services is seeking a skilled Registered Nurse (RN) to join the Operating Room team at M Health Fairview Lakes Hospital, delivering high-quality, patient-centered care in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

About Fairview Lakes:

Fairview Lakes Medical Center provides award-winning care to the communities northeast of the Twin Cities.  We are a Level IV trauma center, providing life-saving treatment to the seriously ill and injured 24 hours a day.  Specialty services are available on-site in heart care, cancer care, childbirth, orthopedics, pediatrics and more.

  • Serving patients of all ages and cases including general surgery, orthopedic, podiatry, spine, OB/GYN, urology, ENT, ophthalmology and endoscopy.
  • Averages 20 OR cases and 10-30 Endoscopy cases a day
  • 80th percentile ranking for Patient Satisfaction
  • Endoscopy/GI department has 2 procedure rooms to serve both outpatients and inpatients for colonoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, and EGD procedures.

Schedule: This Operating Room Nurse position will be working 80 hours every two weeks on the rotating day/evening/night shift and 8 hour shifts. Schedule requires call shifts during the week (1-2 week nights / month), weekends (every 8th -10th weekend) and holidays. (Hours of operation 6:45-10:30pm)

As a Registered Nurse in the Operating Room, you will be responsible for:

  • Assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care for all assigned patient population(s) in accordance with all policy, procedure, professional practice guidelines and the MN Nurse Practice Act.
  • The RN coordinates care with members of the health care team and delegates responsibilities to others as appropriate.
  • The Operating Room RN will be able to facilitate the patients in a 5 suite OR department.
  • Set up, circulate and organize O.R. rooms for a multitude of Surgical Services (Gen, Robot, Ent, Gyn, Urology, Ortho,etc.) and the GI /Endoscopy unit.

The Registered Nurse is responsible for the assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care for all assigned patient population(s). The RN is responsible for performing these responsibilities in accordance with all policy, procedures, professional practice guidelines and the MN Nurse Practice Act. The RN coordinates care with members of the health care team and delegates responsibilities to others as appropriate.
Responsibilities

  • Assesses patient needs and identifies expected nursing outcomes.
  • Collaborates with patient, family and other health team members to develop a nursing plan as part of an integrated, comprehensive plan of care
  • Develops an individualized plan based on age, social and cultural considerations, condition and other relevant needs.
  • Evaluates care and patient response to interventions and expected outcomes.
  • Collaborates and communicates effectively and respectfully with the patient, family and members of the health care team within and across care settings to promote partnership-based health care
  • Demonstrates the ability to advance care by utilizing standards, guidelines, care pathways and continuous improvement to enhance patient outcomes.
  • Promotes a culture of evidence based practice (EBP)

Required Qualifications:  

  • Current OR registered nurse experience and/or Successful completion of the AORN Peri-op 101 course and/or Clinical Experience as a Certified Surgical Technologist or completion of OR Internship
  • Current Minnesota Registered Nurse License
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
