HVAC Superintendent (Commercial Construction)

Location: Project-Based / Jobsite
Reports To: Project Manager / Mechanical Project Manager
Employment Type: Full-Time
Position Summary

Urgently hiring a HVAC Superintendent is responsible for on-site supervision and coordination of all HVAC/mechanical installation activities on commercial construction projects. This role ensures HVAC systems are installed safely, per plans and specifications, on schedule, and in compliance with applicable codes and project requirements.
The HVAC Superintendent serves as the primary field authority for mechanical work, coordinating subcontractors, enforcing safety and quality standards, and working closely with project management to deliver successful mechanical installations.
HVAC Field Supervision

  • Oversee daily on-site HVAC/mechanical construction activities
  • Supervise HVAC subcontractors, foremen, and mechanical trades
  • Ensure HVAC systems are installed according to approved drawings, specifications, and shop drawings
  • Coordinate ductwork, piping, equipment placement, and system routing
  • Verify proper installation of air handling units, RTUs, exhaust systems, VAVs, controls, and related components
Scheduling & Coordination

  • Develop and manage short-term (look-ahead) HVAC schedules
  • Coordinate HVAC work with other trades (electrical, plumbing, fire protection, structural)
  • Plan and schedule equipment deliveries, crane picks, and material staging
  • Identify and resolve field conflicts, clashes, or sequencing issues

Safety & Compliance

  • Enforce OSHA and jobsite safety standards
  • Conduct HVAC-specific safety meetings and toolbox talks
  • Ensure compliance with applicable mechanical codes (IMC, local AHJ requirements)
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized mechanical work area
Quality Control & Inspections

  • Monitor workmanship and material quality
  • Ensure installations meet project specifications and industry standards
  • Coordinate inspections with local authorities and third-party inspectors
  • Manage HVAC punch lists and verify corrective work completion
Testing, Startup & Closeout

  • Coordinate HVAC system testing, balancing (TAB), and startup activities
  • Support commissioning activities as required by the project
  • Verify system functionality prior to turnover
  • Assist with project closeout documentation related to HVAC systems
Communication & Reporting

  • Serve as the primary HVAC field contact on the jobsite
  • Communicate daily progress, issues, and manpower needs to the Project Manager
  • Maintain daily reports, logs, and mechanical field documentation
  • Coordinate with owners, engineers, inspectors, and commissioning agents as needed

Required

  • 5+ years of experience in commercial HVAC or mechanical construction
  • Prior experience as an HVAC Superintendent, Foreman, or Lead Mechanical Supervisor
  • Strong ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and specifications
  • Working knowledge of OSHA safety standards
  • Strong leadership and coordination skills in a jobsite environment
  • Ability to work full-time on active construction sites
Experience on commercial projects such as:
    • Office and tenant improvement
    • Healthcare
    • Industrial and manufacturing
    • Data centers
    • Hospitality

  • OSHA 30 certification
  • Experience with Procore or similar construction management platforms
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
