Job description

HVAC Service Technician & Installer

Job Summary

Oahu Electric and Air is seeking an experienced, reliable HVAC Service Technician & Installer to join our growing team in Waipahu, HI!

In this dual-capability role, you will perform residential and light commercial HVAC installations, preventative maintenance, diagnostic troubleshooting, and equipment replacements across Oahu. We specialize in ductless mini-split systems, central air, and heat pumps.

Key Responsibilities

  • Installation & Replacement: Lead or assist in installing residential and light commercial HVAC systems, including ductless mini-split systems, heat pumps, air handlers, and ductwork modifications.
  • Service & Troubleshooting: Inspect, diagnose, and repair electrical, mechanical, and airflow issues across existing heating and cooling systems.
  • Preventative Maintenance: Perform seasonal tune-ups, filter replacements, coil cleanings, and safety checks to keep client systems operating at peak efficiency.
  • Refrigerant & Safety Compliance: Safely handle, recover, and charge refrigerants in strict compliance with EPA regulations and local Hawaii building codes.
  • Customer Communication: Clearly explain technical diagnoses, walk homeowners through system operation, and offer honest repair or replacement options.
  • Vehicle & Jobsite Care: Keep company service vans clean, stocked with inventory, and organized; maintain a safe and clean work environment at every job site.

Work Schedule & Location

  • Schedule: Full-Time | Monday – Friday (Day Shift) | Rotating on-call availability
  • Dispatch Location: Based out of our shop in Waipahu, HI, serving residential and commercial clients island-wide across Oahu.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Experience: 2+ years of hands-on HVAC installation or service technician experience preferred. Strong familiarity with ductless mini-split systems is a major plus.
  • Certifications:
    • Active EPA Universal Certification required (or Type II minimum).
    • Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record required.
  • Technical Competencies: Skilled in reading wiring diagrams, operating manifold gauges, testing electrical circuits, soldering/brazing copper tubing, and duct layout.
  • Professionalism: Punctual, honest, customer-friendly, and a strong team player.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to safely lift, carry, and maneuver heavy equipment up to 50–70 lbs.
  • Ability to work in tight or elevated spaces, including attics, crawlspaces, rooftops, and on ladders.
  • Comfortable working in outdoor Hawaii weather and non-air-conditioned spaces.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Pay Range: $28.00 – $40.00 / hour
