BRIEF POSTING DESCRIPTION:

The P HB FACILITIES OPERATIONS Department of the P FACILITIES & SECURITY Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 1 Management vacancy available. (Role: Professional Supervisor)

JOB FUNCTION:

Plans and coordinates grounds-keeping at HECO substations, other facilities and custodial work at the Ward Avenue and King Street facilities.  Supervises Facilities Operations staff.  Provides knowledge, expertise, and guidance in building maintenance, grounds keeping and herbiciding.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Plans, coordinates, directs (supervises) and evaluates activities of the Building Services and Grounds-keeping teams , Sr. Electrician and Carpenter. Establishes schedules and determines priorities for building and grounds-keeping maintenance.  Reports work environment problems with recommendations/solutions.  Facilitates the One Call Service for HECO internal building maintenance and emergency services, including plumbing, electrical, flooding, etc.
  • Coordinates the provision of  plumbing and painting services  to meet HECO C&M operational field emergency needs and 'graffiti mitigation' at HECO's padmount transformers, substations, etc.
  • Coordinates all HEI & HECO classroom set-ups, i.e. furniture placement, overhead projectors, flip charts, chalkboards, etc. 
  • Prepares forecast for custodial maintenance and grounds-keeping and building maintenance budget.  Plans and coordinates the purchase of all custodial and grounds-keeping supplies and approves billing.
  • Coordinates the safety and work training of all personnel under work direction.
  • Coordinates and inspects grounds keeping and custodial work by contractors.
  • Obtains estimates from contractors for building service requirements such as carpet replacements, window replacements, cleaning, etc.
  • Participates in Company emergency response activities as assigned, including any activities required to prepare for such emergency response.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge Requirements

  • Working knowledge of the principles of good housekeeping and building maintenance programs.
  • Working knowledge of landscape plants and their growing habits, pesticides and their use, landscape and sprinkler system maintenance techniques and practices.
  • Working knowledge of the safe and proper use of custodial and grounds keeping tools and equipment.
  • Working knowledge of personal computers and/or mainframe systems and related software applications (i.e. spreadsheets, word-processing, database management, etc.)
  • Thorough knowledge of policies and procedures contained in such documents as Company/Union agreement, Accident Prevention Manual, General Information Manual, etc.

Skills Requirements

  • Leadership skills including effective written, oral and listening communication skills; conflict resolution skills; the ability to work with a variety of individuals; willingness and ability to train.
  • Analytical and administration skills required for such tasks as preparing and monitoring estimates/forecasts; provides input to appraisals; carrying out company/department policies and procedures.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to influence and persuade various groups or individuals.
  • Ability to read, comprehend and utilize technical publications such as MSDS book and blueprints.
  • Ability to work split-shift to provide coverage for two shift work crews.
  • Must have or be able to qualify for a valid State of Hawaii driver's license to inspect contract work.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain flexible in a demanding work environment and adapt to rapidly changing priorities.

Experience Requirements

  • Several years (3-5) related building and facilities services experience including basic repair and custodial cleaning functions or equivalent experience.
  • Few (1-2) years demonstrated supervisory experience.
