Unreal UI Engineer
Location: United States (Remote)
Work Type: Contract
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Unreal UI Engineer to help build high-quality player-facing interface experiences for a AAA game development team. This role focuses on implementing polished and responsive UI systems inside Unreal Engine, working closely with UX designers, UI artists, and gameplay teams to bring menus, HUDs, navigation systems, and front-end experiences to life. This is a specialized UI developer position, not a general software engineering role.
Key Responsibilities
  • Implement player-facing UI features and systems in Unreal Engine.
  • Work extensively within the UI/View Layer, translating designs into functional in-engine experiences.
  • Develop and maintain UI logic using C++ and Blueprint.
  • Build menus, HUDs, overlays, navigation systems, and other game interface components.
  • Create polished interactions, transitions, and UI animations.
  • Collaborate with designers, artists, and engineers to deliver intuitive user experiences.
  • Optimize UI systems for performance and responsiveness.
  • Debug and resolve UI-related issues throughout development.
  • Participate in technical reviews and contribute to UI implementation best practices.
Required Qualifications
  • Professional experience developing user interfaces in Unreal Engine.
  • Strong proficiency in C++.
  • Strong proficiency in Blueprint.
  • Deep experience working in the View Layer.
  • Experience translating visual UI designs into production-ready game UI.
  • Deep understanding of UI architecture and implementation workflows.
  • Strong problem-solving and debugging skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience implementing HUDs, front-end menus, or navigation systems.
  • Experience creating UI animations and interactive transitions.
  • Experience working on shipped games or live-service products.
  • Familiarity with performance profiling and optimization in Unreal Engine.
  • Experience supporting UX and UI teams through implementation and iteration.
Portfolio Requirements
Candidates must provide a portfolio that includes examples of:
  • High-quality UI implementation work within Unreal Engine.
  • UI animations, transitions, and interaction flows.
  • Menus, HUD systems, or front-end workflows.
