Job Description

Graphic Design Graduate Assistant Non-Teaching, under direction, assists with the conceptualization, planning, design, and delivery of a wide range of design projects that support and advance efforts to fulfill the mission of the Office of Marketing and Communications and the university. Projects include designing artwork for multimedia and digital marketing. The Graphic Design Graduate Assistant Non-Teaching, provides technical skills, performs complex graphic design, and assists with the timely delivery of professional-level work that meets university standards and adheres to the official branding guidelines.

SALARY: $15.00 hour X 20 hours a week.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Creates graphic design solutions for university marketing, branding and identity purposes
  • Works closely and collaboratively with the Manager of Creative Design, Graphic Designer and campus partners on multi-channel marketing and media projects, including:
    • Designing Canva templates for campus partners
    • Processing brand approval requests from campus partners
  • Protects and promotes the university's brand through professional-level graphic designs
  • Helps ensure the proper use of the university's name, logos, and images for both internal stakeholders and external vendors before production or publication
  • Works with team members to implement design modifications
  • Researches and implements design and development best practices
  • Helps maintain archived materials and documents
  • Stays current on trends and technology in the graphic design and marketing fields
  • Utilizes Teamwork, a cloud-based project management system, to track project statuses and communications
  • Cultivates positive working relationships with coworkers and campus partners and maintains customer satisfaction

This job description shall include, but is not limited to, the above duties. The position may require temporarily performing other duties as assigned to maintain operations and services.

Minimum Requirements
  • Education: Currently enrolled in a BFA or MFA program in Visual Communication or related discipline at East Texas A&M
  • Experience / Knowledge / Skills:
  • Proficiency in Canva and Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop)
  • Strong foundational knowledge of typography, layout, color theory, and visual hierarchy
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational and time management skills
  • Proven ability to work under pressure and adjust to changing priorities and deadlines
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to:
    • Multitask and work cooperatively and professionally with others in a fast-paced environment to ensure the timely completion of projects
    • Work within a project management system and meet deadlines
  • Licensing/Professional Certifications: None
  • Physical Requirements: None
  • Other Requirements: Portfolio required. Please submit a link to your online portfolio or a PDF with 5-10 samples.
Preferred Education / Skills / Experience
  • MFA candidate or upper-level BFA student
  • Experience working within established brand guidelines
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards in design (WCAG)
  • Knowledge of print production, prepress and file preparation
  • Prior internship or client-based design experience
  • Experience working in the Teamwork project management system or a similar system
  • Ability to design user support materials in Canva, including templates and brand identity kits
