Job description

Bal Seal, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Arxis (Nasdaq: ARXS) is seeking a Business Unit Controller who is responsible for the accounting operations, including processing of financial transactions, production of periodic financial reports, and maintenance of accounting records. Responsible for a comprehensive set of controls designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company’s reported financial results, and ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and international financial reporting standards. Prepares consolidated results for reporting to Management. The Business Unit Controller reports directly to the Vice President & General Manager and indirectly to the VP Finance for the Poly-Metal Components Block of Arxis.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


General Management

  • Primarily responsible for accuracy, integrity and timely period closing of the Bal Seal’s financial books and records
  • Work closely with the Company’s Director of FP&A to monitor budget versus actual on a total Company and Departmental level.
  • Effectively communicate policies and procedures to accounting staff and other departments, and promptly assist in resolving accounting issues.
  • Work with all levels of management and various departments on day-to-day operational issues to include:
    • Inventory Costing and Product Pricing
    • Fixed Asset Acquisition
    • Credit and Collections
    • Budgeting and Forecasting
    • Accounts Payable and Payroll
  • Manage workload and monitor work quality of two Staff Accountants and accounting clerical assistant
  • Provide suggestions and input to the VP and General Manager regarding operating policies and procedures, deadlines, group morale and personnel issues
  • Travel between facilities in California and Colorado


Internal/External Reporting

  • Coordinate and review monthly and quarterly reporting requirements with the VP and General Manager, as well as Block and Segment leadership
  • Work collaboratively with the Director of FP&A in the preparation of monthly reporting packages
  • Review the general ledger, income statement and departmental budget versus actual reports monthly and quarterly to ensure accurate actual/budget/forecast financial information
  • Assist in ensuring timely and accurate financial closing of monthly results
  • Collaborate with the VP and General Manager and the Director of FP&A to manage the ongoing forecasting process, as well as the annual budgeting and periodic strategic planning processes
  • Work closely with both the internal and external auditors to provide audit schedules, back-up and other PBCs
  • Ad-hoc special projects necessary to support the Block, Segment, and overall Arxis goals


Accounting Processes, Systems, and Intenal Controls

  • Manage accounting operations including A/R, A/P, G/L, Inventory/Cost Accounting and Revenue Recognition to ensure all financial and accounting transactions are processed to established standards and completed within targeted deadlines.
  • Ensure the accuracy of inventory through coordination of regular cycle counts, annual physical, periodic review of work-in-progress (WIP) and regular analysis of required reserves
  • Manage capital projects and forecast cash flow impact
  • Review, maintain, and continuously improve Bal Seal’s system of internal controls to ensure their integrity and ongoing compliance with Arxis requirements including ongoing SOX compliance
  • Collaborate with Arxis tax resources to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
  • Assist and/or lead the implementation of changes to the accounting systems, processes and procedures, as necessary
  • Perform other related duties as assigned



Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent experience

Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience in leading teams and managing direct reports
  • Minimum of 12 years’ experience showing a proven record of success in progressively increasing roles in Finance and Accounting
  • Minimum of 5 years of manufacturing experience
  • Public company experience is a plus
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, and other Microsoft Office Suite tools
  • ERP systems experience required; Oracle – JD Edwards preferred
  • Thorough understanding of accounting procedures
  • Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Strong understanding of economic and banking processes
  • Demonstrated accomplishments of improving efficiencies and reducing costs across the business by processes optimization, developing standards and establishing internal controls
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills, with close attention to detail
  • Ability to manage confidential information
Physical Requirements:
  • This position is mainly sedentary; therefore, required to sit
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to walk throughout the facility
  • Frequent lifting and/or moving up to 10 pounds and occasionally lifting and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • Occasionally will need to bend, stoop and squat
