Job description

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The Financial Intelligence Unit Associate Analyst has primary responsibility for analyzing and responding to escalated suspicious activity incidents reported by the front-end processing groups, phone groups, as well as Enterprise Security. These escalated incidents are inclusive to money laundering, fraud and cyber-crime. The Financial Intelligence Unit Associate Analyst is required to diligently investigate the incident, identify and address the root cause, mitigate exposure to the client and the firm, perform the required risk assessment, document findings in internal incident logs and Suspicious Activity Reports, and inform and influence management, Legal, Enterprise Security, and corresponding business partners in II Services and Retirement Plan Services. The Financial Intelligence Unit Associate Analyst must use independent knowledge, research, and theory when making decisions regarding high dollar and highly sensitive issues that could impact customer accounts resulting in possible financial impact to client assets and T. Rowe Price. If the investigation requires additional due diligence with the individual in question and/or the client, the Financial Intelligence Unit Associate Analyst is expected to place and receive phone calls to obtain the necessary information to resolve the case.

Additionally, the Financial Intelligence Unit Associate Analyst is expected to monitor transactions for suspicious behavior, analyze data to identify new patterns, and suggest methods to refine our internal suspicious activity monitoring. The Financial Intelligence Unit Associate Analyst leverages their deep knowledge to independently lead, participate in, and coordinate projects involving said functions and others as needed in order to create operational capabilities required by regulatory, client, or investment demands. The Financial Intelligence Unit Associate Analyst also serves as resource to the Financial Intelligence Unit department and to TRPS as a whole. The Financial Intelligence Unit Associate Analyst must understand the T. Rowe Price compliance structure and keep both Financial Intelligence Unit and other departments abreast of requirements by educating and influencing them as necessary. The Financial Intelligence Unit Associate Analyst must demonstrate a broad knowledge of TRP policies, regulatory guidelines related to Anti-Money Laundering and Suspicious Activity, and stay abreast of changing industry standards.

The Financial Intelligence Unit Associate Analyst is expected to maintain industry knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and obtaining applicable professional certifications. For example, certification with the Association of Certified Money Laundering Specialists (ACAMS) is applicable to this position as well as the Association of Certified Fraud Examiner (ACFE).

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The Financial Intelligence Unit Associate Analyst is responsible for reviewing escalated alerts related to Suspicious Activity Monitoring and making independent decisions on appropriate next steps when risk is identified. Should the scenario warrant communication with the client, the Financial Intelligence Unit Associate Analyst should develop meaningful solutions that fully address the needs of the client as well as partner with the client on a coordinated action plan. Communications with the client should be conducted regularly until the issue is fully resolved.
  • The Financial Intelligence Unit Associate Analyst will consider the wider implications of their proposed solutions before making recommendations on complex issues and will partner with management, Legal, the AML Officer and the Fraud Risk Manager to implement appropriate next steps.
  • On a regular basis the Financial Intelligence Unit Associate Analyst will be expected to participate in discussions related to suspicious activity trends. This trend analysis will be used by the Financial Intelligence Unit Analyst to influence the business with the goal of preventing and mitigating future fraud and other suspicious activity dealing with AML and cyber-crime.
  • The Financial Intelligence Unit Associate Analyst role supports the Financial Intelligence Unit Analyst and FIU Management team by participating in system or procedural enhancement projects intended to identify and reduce compliance and business risk. This includes, but is not limited to, system or process enhancements, annual projects (purges, closeouts, foreign address review, tuning, etc.) and one-off situations that involve FIU Compliance. They are charged with ensuring tools or controls are in place to adequately measure compliance and areas of risk within the firm. Additionally, the Financial Intelligence Unit Associate Analyst is expected to leverage their knowledge of both the downstream and upstream impacts of their work and make the appropriate connections to other business units prior to making process recommendations.
  • The Financial Intelligence Unit Associate Analyst is responsible for sharing knowledge and educating business partners on how to identify red flags related to some form of fraud or money laundering. Financial Intelligence Unit Associate Analyst is expected to conduct informal coaching sessions with both internal Financial Intelligence Unit associates and associates within Individual Investors and Retirement Plan Services. As needed, the Financial Intelligence Unit Associate Analyst will assist in the development of new trainings that can be used in Financial Intelligence Unit and shared with Financial Intelligence Unit business partners.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • College degree, or
  • Associate degree and 2 years related work experience, or
  • High school diploma or equivalent and 3 years related work experience.
  • 1 year of relevant experience
  • Actimize, DST, AWD, and other applicable systems knowledge
