Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU/ED Holding position requiring 2+ years of PCU experience, Cerner proficiency, and comfort with team nursing alongside LPNs.

Details
  • Work in an ED Hold unit that boards stable MS and PCU-type patients from the ED until discharge or transfer to an inpatient unit
  • Unit is a 4-bed unit that can expand up to 8-10 beds based on need and acuity
  • Patient ratios range from 1:5 to 1:6 and fluctuate based on staffing and acuity
  • Team nursing model utilized with RN/LPN or RN/CNA pairings depending on acuity
  • Day shift schedule with 3x12-hour shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM
  • Float position required to inpatient PCU units when no patients are on the boarding unit
  • Floating required to other units within the hospital or nearby affiliate hospitals
  • Every other weekend work required
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • Cerner charting system required
Requirements
  • Active RN license (IN or Compact) required, must be in hand prior to start date
  • Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
  • Minimum 2 years of PCU experience required
  • Prior experience with 1:5 patient ratios required
  • Cerner charting experience required
  • Must have completed 3-4 previous travel assignments
  • Comfortable working in a team nursing model with LPN delegation
  • RN degree from a university accredited by ACEN or CCNE at time of graduation
  • 2 supervisor references required
  • SSN and DOB required for consideration
Additional Information
  • Provide nursing care to boarded ED patients with MS and PCU-level acuity, including cardiac monitoring, IV therapy, and management of cardiac/vasoactive drips
  • Comfortable managing central lines, PICC lines, and peripheral IV access
  • Experience with insulin drip protocols and titration preferred
  • Care of ventilated patients and oxygen administration knowledge preferred
  • Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
  • First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
  • Local candidates (IN residents) are not accepted for this position
  • Any current or former IU Health perm/PRN employee must be separated for at least 12 months before applying as a traveler
  • Travelers who have accrued 12 months of travel employment within IU Health must complete a designated break period to reset eligibility
