What are some common challenges faced by union workers and how can they be addressed?

Union workers often encounter challenges such as navigating collective bargaining agreements, adapting to changing work assignments, and managing communication between union leadership and management. Addressing these challenges typically involves staying informed about contract terms, participating in union meetings, and actively engaging with both coworkers and supervisors to resolve workplace concerns constructively. Many union workers also find it helpful to seek mentorship from more experienced colleagues to better understand workplace dynamics and best practices for advocacy.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Union Worker, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Union Worker, you typically need proficiency in your trade or craft, a high school diploma or GED, and sometimes completion of an apprenticeship program. Familiarity with safety regulations, trade-specific tools, and collective bargaining agreements is often required. Job description

Position location: Atlanta, GA
As a Software Engineering Architect at Western Union, you will use AI coding agents to accelerate how we build, modernize, and improve products across our global money movement platforms. Rather than only writing code directly, you will guide AI agents to build applications, workflow automations, internal tools, and basic AI agents that solve real customer, agent, and operational problems.
You will work across engineering, product, operations, risk, compliance, and customer care to identify friction points and rapidly ship safe, reliable, and measurable solutions.
Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Western Union will not sponsor applicants for work visas for this position.
Role Responsibilities
  • Build AI-assisted apps, workflow automations, internal tools, and lightweight agents across product and platform areas.
  • Translate customer, agent, and business needs into clear specs and end-to-end production solutions.
  • Use AI to speed up modernization, testing, documentation, observability, and productivity.
  • Review AI-generated code and designs to ensure security, privacy, compliance, reliability, and quality.
  • Track system adoption, usage, conversion, errors, customer friction, and operational outcomes.
  • Design and maintain scalable, secure, fault-tolerant architectures for high-volume financial transactions.
  • Lead architecture reviews, proofs-of-concept, and design discussions across teams.
  • Develop integrations with risk, compliance orchestration, third-party platforms, and digital channels.
  • Build and maintain compliance back-office solutions like transaction monitoring, controls, reconciliation, and reporting.

Role Requirements
  • Master's degree with 5+ years of experience; bachelor's with 7+ years software development experience; including 2+ years as a solution or technical lead in medium to large organizations.
  • Hands-on experience using AI coding agents to build or speed software delivery.
  • Skilled in writing effective prompts, iterating with AI tools, and validating AI outputs for production.
  • Strong full-stack knowledge: frontend, backend, APIs, data, cloud, and infrastructure.
  • Experience with modern architectures: web apps, APIs, databases, event-driven systems, queues, automation, microservices.
  • Experience with Java/J2EE, web tech, web services, and frontend frameworks like Angular or React.
  • Strong grasp of secure coding, privacy, compliance, reliability, observability, and production readiness in regulated settings.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in Risk and Compliance back-office controls and case management applications.
