Job Description
The Data Modeler, Metadata Specialist (ITS 4) provides advanced, enterprise-levelexpertisein data modeling andmetadatamanagement to support trusted reporting, analytics, andmoderndata architecture across Minnesota State Colleges and Universities. This position designs andmaintainsconceptual, logical, and physical data models;establishesand curatesthebusiness and technical metadata; and supports data lineage and standards that enable secure, reusable, and high-quality data products. The role partners with functional and technical stakeholders to ensurethat data is understandable, well governed, and fit for self-service analytics, operational reporting, and AI-driven use cases.
Salary Range:
$37.72 - $62.21/hourly ($78,759 - $129,894/annually)
Minimum Qualifications
Five (5) years of professional experiencein enterprise data modeling and metadata practices supporting analytics solutions, using tools such asSQL Developer Data Modeler,Microsoft Fabric (OneLake),Azure Data Factory/Fabric Data Pipelines,Dataflows Gen2,and/or comparable ETL/ELT and modeling tools (e.g.,CData,GoldenGate,or similar).ABachelor'sdegree in a related field may substitute for one(1)year of experience.
Advanced SQLproficiency(e.g.,T-SQL, PL/SQL)with experiencevalidatingdata structures and transformations to support reliable reporting and analytics.
Experience developing andmaintainingbusiness and technical metadata,including definitions, stewardship, classifications, and lineage, using tools such asMicrosoft Purview,Data Cookbook,and/or equivalent data catalog/governance platforms.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively onlarge, complex, cross-functionaldata initiatives, including work indistributed/federatedenvironments.
Demonstrated ability to deliver modeling/metadata work products withstrong organization, documentation, and stakeholder communication, including clear status reporting.
Preferred Qualification
Experience supporting enterpriseor large-scale application systems.
Experience giving formalpresentationsto business audiences.
Experienceassessingskill gaps, individual competency, and job performancetodesign, implement and evaluate training,documentationand coaching initiatives for software products.
Experience working with systems andadministrative procedures inahigher educationenvironment.
