About Union Kitchen
Union Kitchen is a Food Business Accelerator. We build successful food businesses by empowering food founders with access to our Ecosystem, Roadmap, and Industry Expertise from launch to scale. Since starting in 2012, we've worked with over 650 food businesses, including DC favorites Compass Coffee, Snacklins, Eat Pizza, Veggie*Confetti and many more! When we build successful food businesses, we create livelihoods, establish inclusive wealth, develop vibrant communities, and build pride in our home.
About the role
We are a grocery store, coffee shop, and deli, that showcases locally made products alongside nationally recognized brands. Our stores are where many local food products meet the DC community for the first time.
As General Manager at Union Kitchen, you will be responsible for:
  • Getting to know our wonderful customers and building relationships with the community
  • Learning about and selling our local food products and menu items, with special focus on our food business Accelerator
  • Clearly communicating Union Kitchen goals, values, and strategies to motivate your team in alignment with our mission
  • Maintaining inventory according to company standards and keeping a well stocked and visually appealing store
  • Developing and executing creative merchandising plans to drive sales
  • Developing a high performing team that strives to go above and beyond the expectations of our customers
  • Writing and managing employee schedules to ensure adequate coverage at all times
  • Acting quickly and decisively to problem solve unforeseen issues with customers, Team Members, and facilities
  • Crafting specialty beverages and prepared foods from the deli

You will excel in this role if you:
  • Have one or more years of experience managing a team in a retail and/or foodservice environment
  • Enjoy a fast-paced work environment that's centered around customer satisfaction
  • Are passionate about local food, the business of food, and building community
  • Can effectively communicate and build relationships with customers and team members of all backgrounds
  • Love challenging yourself to learn new skills and ways of operating
  • Value punctuality, and appreciate when everyone on the team shows up for each other
  • Are available to work early mornings, evenings, nights, weekends, and/or holidays, as needed
  • Can commute to weekly departmental leadership meetings at various locations across the DC region
  • Have the ability to lift, push/pull, carry and/or move up to 30 pounds
  • Can climb ladders, stairs, ramps and uneven floor and/or surfaces.
  • Can squat, bend, twist and reach for items below waist level or above shoulders
  • Can use your hands to reach, grip, turn and perform precision work. You're using your hands to do things like operate espresso machines, perform basic knife work, and operate the register

The pay range for this role is:
60,000 - 65,000 USD per year (Washington)
