Job description

Are you an experienced Earthworks / Utilities Labourer looking to join a major civil earthworks team. You will support civil construction and underground utility activities. This role will assist with utility installation work, trench support, grading, and general earthworks operations while working closely with operators and utility personnel.
The successful candidates will be comfortable working around excavations and underground utilities, assisting crews with pipe installation, grade preparation, material handling, trench support activities, and site maintenance.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Assist crews with underground utility installation activities
  • Support HDPE / PVC pipe installation by preparing bedding material, placing gravel, and assisting with backfill operations
  • Use grade lasers, measuring tools, and grade stakes to assist with elevation and grade control
  • Check and maintain line and grade under the direction of supervision and forepersons
  • Work safely in and around trenches, excavations, and confined work areas
  • Assist with material handling, and the safe movement of pipe, fittings, and utility structures
  • Load, unload, clean, and maintain tools and equipment
  • Perform hand grading, shoveling, raking, and compaction related tasks
  • Assist operators with excavation and earthmoving activities
  • Act as a spotter for heavy equipment operators, maintaining safe work zones and clear communication during excavation, lifting, and earthmoving activities
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas
  • Follow all project safety procedures and participate in daily safety meetings
  • Complete general earthworks and construction labour duties as required

Qualifications

  • 3+ years experience as an earthworks / utility labourer
  • Experience working around underground utility installations is considered an asset
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work in varying weather conditions
  • Comfortable working around trenches, excavations, and heavy equipment
  • Ability to follow directions and work effectively as part of a construction crew
  • Strong commitment to safety and safe work practices
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence (preferred) with a satisfactory 3-year driver's abstract
  • CSTS 2020 Fundamentals certification
  • Ground Disturbance Level II certification is considered an asset
  • Must successfully complete pre-access drug and alcohol testing

Work Conditions

  • 14 days on / 7 days off rotational schedule
  • Camp accommodation provided
