Job description

JOB SUMMARY
Performs manual/physical labor while assisting trades workers on construction sites including but not limited to: preparing and cleaning job sites, loading, unloading and delivering materials, and using a variety of tools. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Act as journeyman tradesmen 
  • Perform both heavy and general labor  
  • Skilled and experiences in any or all of the following:
    • Pipe laying sewer, water and storm drain,
    • Concrete forming, hand mixing, pouring and stripping
    • Hand digging with shovels and power tools
    • Spreading, grading and compacting base rock and asphalt
    • Utilizing compaction equipment and tools
    • Demolition and minor carpentry
    • Grade checking and layout
    • Cutting, chipping, burning with torch, soldering, drilling, coring 
  • Load and unload materials and supplies
  • Handle deliveries and pick-ups
  • Assist trades workers
  • Keeping jobsite and surrounding areas clean and organized
  • Assist with cutting and  fitting construction materials under the direction of supervisor
  • Operating small power tools such as power drills, saws, core driller, and hammer drill.
  • Service, clean and maintain equipment and tools in good repair.
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • High school graduate or GED 
  • 5 years of recent related experience in performing heavy construction work
  • Knowledge of:
    • Basic operations and terms used in general construction
    • Use and purpose of common hand tools
    • Hazards and safety precautions for this type of work
  • Perform heavy manual labor for extended periods of time
  • Follow oral and written directions in English
  • Able to work in low light conditions and see with unaided or aided equipment
  • Able to lift 35 pounds multiple times 
  • Able to bend, twist, squat and climb stairs and ladders
  • Able to walk on uneven surface
  • Able to work in dusty environments using protective equipment
  • Able to hear backup alarms, shouts and normal voices
