Job description

We are SLR Consulting (US), a 500+ coast-to-coast team of advisory, environmental/engineering, and regulatory professionals. We deliver environmental and sustainability services to our clients through the integration of over 30 advisory, technical environmental, and engineering disciplines to help clients address some of their most complex challenges around sustainability. We are Making Sustainability Happen.

As our new Construction Inspector, you will play an important role on a team whose work is essential to achieving this goal.

Role

As a Construction Inspector you will provide assistance to the Resident Engineers and Chief Inspectors in the management of small to medium size projects and supporting larger more complex projects often working under the direction of Connecticut DOT (CTDOT) staff. The types of projects focus on CTDOT and Utility/Infrastructure construction project including highway, local road, bridge, water main and sanitary sewer infrastructure type construction often following the CTDOT inspection process. In addition the candidate will assist the designers in drafting, designing, estimating and specification writing for a variety of projects. SLR provides a wide range of construction-related services, private and public, including construction management, project administration, and construction observation/inspection.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Resident Engineer/Chief Inspector with Private, Municipal and State Projects
  • Review Contract Documents (Plans and Specifications)
  • Conduct measurements and documentation of construction activities to ensure compliance with contract documents.
  • Perform basic material testing activities and supplying results for internal and external purposes. Testing may include Hot Mix Asphalt, Portland Cement Concrete and soils/aggregates
  • Coordinate with Clients and Contractors
  • Prepare records for oversight of construction Projects including daily inspection reports, testing protocols and the CT DOT five volume system for record keeping
  • Assist in preparation for project progress meetings
  • Maintain project records throughout construction
  • Assist in the preparation of Estimates and Change Orders
  • Prepare your inspection work documents including daily reports, computations, testing results, correspondence
  • Coordinate with utility companies and various agencies of the industry relating to the project
  • Assist manager to identify project issues and to quickly produce engineered solutions
  • Assist design teams with CAD drafting, estimating and specifications
  • Prepare estimates
  • Work may involve working nights, weekends and holiday
  • Work beyond eight hours per day and more than 40 hours per week may be required

Qualifications/Education/Memberships:

  • Projected graduation with Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering/Construction Management within 2 years.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Willingness to obtain, EIT, PE or NICET/CCM certifications with experience
  • Willingness to obtain ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Certification - Grade I
  • Willingness to obtain NETTCP Concrete and HMA Certifications
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical and judgment capabilities
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and manage work
  • Assist team members
  • Excellent written and communication skills
