Job description

Overview
The Business Intelligence Developer is responsible for assisting Business Intelligence (BI) management in creating, maintaining, optimizing, and setting up recovery for Frontwave's data warehouse. Responds to reporting needs and daily functions, including review of backups, reports, SQL queries, data extracts, and database capacity needs. Supports BI analysis efforts by providing access to data resources. Supports and performs upgrades and updates to systems during off hours to support uninterrupted use during production times.

Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Includes the following non-inclusive list. Other duties may be assigned. All duties are to be performed in compliance with applicable laws, regulations and Credit Union policies and procedures.
  • Assists in managing multiple databases across disparate platforms, including Databricks, Microsoft SQL Servers, Azure, and DB2.
  • Supports BI and Business Units by writing SQL queries and reports.
  • Supports BI Management by ensuring the overall performance, tuning, and recovery of all MS SQL instances.
  • Work with IT Server Team to back up all databases in compliance with the credit union Backup policy. Assist management in proactive maintenance of all database instances (upgrades, patching, integrity check, and security control) during normal business hours and/or, off hours to reduce the impact on business operations.
  • Work with management to implement data retention policies for operational and sensitive data stores.
  • Evaluate, recommend and implement database management and monitoring tools.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain various scheduled jobs for maintenance, monitoring, and specific business needs. Escalate when needed.
  • Help design and implement redundant systems for high availability.
  • Assist in creating policies and procedures for disaster recovery and data archiving to ensure effective protection and integrity of data assets for compliance and audit.
  • Assist in planning, documenting, implementing, and managing custom database structure, including data import and validation.
  • Consistently perform data steward functions to safeguard Credit Union data integrity.
  • Appropriately document issues and resolutions in BI ticketing system.
  • Partner with Information Technology Team and other departments to review implementation requests, provide feedback, and deploy and maintain t

Qualifications
Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in a STEM field (Computer Science, Math / Statistics, Data Science) or related field (MIS) preferred. Knowledge in MS SQL Database and SQL query writing required (2+ years preferred). Experience in cloud data warehouses strongly preferred.
Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge in SQL, stored procedures, triggers, views, replication, and performance tuning.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Python (PySpark)
  • Detail-oriented and accepts ownership of a task until completion.
  • Ability to reason and anticipate the outcome of repeated processes to assist in daily processing.
  • Is organized, thorough, and has a respect for quality control.
