Job Description
BD Urology and Critical Care (UCC) is seeking a talented Senior Engineer to join our High Volume Consumables R&D team, with a focus on early-stage design within the New Product Development (NPD) process. This role offers a unique opportunity to build expertise in Biodesign, requirements management, Design for Six Sigma (DFSS), and design validation. You'll gain hands-on experience, benefit from structured professional development, and collaborate closely with a broad network of BD's Subject Matter Experts to help shape the next generation of medical technologies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Demonstrate leadership and learning agility to drive meaningful impact on projects and broader company initiatives.
  • Collaborate effectively across functions, bringing a positive attitude and team-first mindset to overcome challenges and foster alignment.
  • Exhibit strong action orientation and personal accountability to ensure program success.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with cross-functional teams and management.
  • Gain deep insights into market gaps, user pain points, and evolving expectations to identify and address unmet customer needs through innovative, technically sound solutions.
  • Translate user and market insights into actionable engineering requirements that align with both product design and business objectives.
  • Apply Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) methodologies, including advanced use of Design of Experiments (DOE) and Critical Parameters Management, to fully understand design space and product performance limits.
  • Navigate projects through established design control processes, including phase gates, design reviews, and technical assessments.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:
  • 3+ years of experience as a design / development engineer.
  • Bachelor's of Science in Mechanical, Biomedical Engineering or related fields is required.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, presentation and influencing skills.
  • Proficient in design control process, development, and commercialization in regulated industry.
  • Ability to appropriately plan and monitor R&D activities. Adjust to scope and timing changes.
  • Application of engineering design process and statistical techniques in product development, such as Design for Six Sigma
