About the Role
The Underwriting Services Supervisor will provide leadership, support, and coaching for the underwriting support team. Manage the assigned Commercial Lines (CL) Technical Assistant team as it relates to CL processes & procedures, positively affecting our agency partners & insured's; assuring service standards are met.
Responsibilities and Duties
  • Successfully coach & mentor a team of CL Technical Assistants as it relates to the following aspects of CL underwriting: Efficient Workflow Management, New Business rating & issuing, Endorsement handling and Renewal pricing as support for the underwriting team and observing service standards.
  • Interview, hire, on-board staff as needed to maintain service levels. Invite Team Lead to assist with the on-boarding process.
  • Request new equipment & new user network services & applications as needed.
  • Successfully manage the work load of the team with assistance of the Team Lead to ensure that our customers receive quality timely service.
  • Prepare & deliver performance reviews to the CL TA staff using feedback from the Team Lead and results of quality assurance checks.
  • Work with the Team Lead in determining schedules, training needs, overtime needs and priorities. Recommending & approving Overtime as needed.
  • Approve time cards and time off requests, communicating to Team Lead, while maintaining efficient staffing based on business needs.
  • Provide feedback to the management team as it relates to support processes regarding business environment
  • Assist data entry unit on the processing of new business, renewals, policy changes and all other related transactions
  • Lead an interactive group as coordinator working with a selected team of underwriters and commercial lines management, for the purpose of maintaining an open dialogue leading to workflow and process improvements

Qualifications and Skills
  • Bachelor's Degree with a background in insurance or equivalent experience
  • 3 to 5 years of underwriting experience at a company or agency level.
    • A minimum of 3 years of underwriting experience should be in the commercial lines sector of insurance
  • Demonstration of self-development through attainment of professional insurance designations, CPCU, ARM, PLU, etc
Starting Pay: The pay range for this position is $65,000 to $90,000 annually. The specific offer will vary based on an applicant's education, qualifications, professional experience, skills, abilities, and any applicable designations/certifications. The posted pay range reflects our ability to hire at different position titles and levels depending on background and experience. The pay range may also be adjusted based on an applicant's geographic location.
The base pay is just one component of Donegal's total compensation package for employees. This role may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program. The amount of any bonus varies and is subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable incentive plan.
