Since you often work directly under a single underwriter, specific duties vary depending on your supervisors working style. You need an associate degree in finance or economics for a career as an underwriting assistant, but most employers prefer candidates to hold a bachelor’s degree. Organizational and administrative skills are crucial for this field.
