Job Description
Purpose or Role of the Position within the Organization Basic Function and Scope of Responsibilities: The Roosevelt School is seeking a dedicated and motivated LIU student to serve as a Model United Nations Assistant at the Post Campus. The Model UN Assistant will support the Model United Nations program in its student engagement, recruitment, programming, training, travel, and administrative activities. Working closely with the Model UN Faculty Advisor and the Roosevelt School Dean, the Model UN Assistant will serve as an important point of support for LIU Model UN students and contribute to the growth and visibility of the program across the University. This position provides an opportunity for a student to develop valuable skills in research, communication, event planning, student engagement, organizational management, and international affairs while gaining practical experience supporting one of LIU's student leadership and experiential learning programs.
Responsibilities The Model United Nations Assistant will:
• Meet and coordinate regularly with the LIU Model UN Faculty Advisor regarding program activities, student needs, recruitment, training, travel, and upcoming events.
• Meet and coordinate with LIU Model UN students when approached to provide support with research, writing, preparation, and travel arrangements.
• Assist students in identifying resources and preparing for Model UN conferences and related activities.
• Plan, promote, and attend LIU Model UN recruitment activities designed to attract new students to the program.
• Plan, promote, and attend LIU Model UN promotional activities and events.
• Plan, promote, and attend LIU Model UN fundraising activities.
• Represent LIU Model UN as an office-holder at Student Government Association (SGA) sessions, as appropriate.
• Attend LIU Model UN training sessions and assist with program logistics and student support.
• Assist with the coordination and promotion of Model UN meetings, workshops, training sessions, and other program activities.
• Update and maintain the LIU Model UN website with current information, announcements, events, photographs, and other approved content.
• Assist with social media and other promotional communications related to Model UN activities, as directed.
• Help maintain organized records and materials related to Model UN activities, events, recruitment, and travel.
• Serve as a positive ambassador for LIU Model UN and the Roosevelt School when interacting with students, faculty, staff, and external organizations.
• Support the Model UN Faculty Advisor and Roosevelt School Dean with special projects and other program-related assignments as needed.
Education Requirements:
• LIU student currently enrolled in an active degree program.
Training, Skills, Knowledge, and Experience :
• Strong interest in international relations, diplomacy, political science, global affairs, or a related field.
• Previous participation in Model United Nations is strongly preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong research and writing skills.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with students, faculty, and staff.
• Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines.
• Professional and interpersonal skills appropriate for representing LIU Model UN at University and external events.
• Familiarity with website content management systems and/or social media platforms is preferred.
• Experience with event planning, student organizations, recruitment, fundraising, or student leadership is preferred.
• Reliable and punctual, with a positive and proactive attitude.
• Commitment to supporting an inclusive and welcoming student organization.
Rate of Pay: $17.00/hour
Period of Employment: 08/30/2026 - 05/30/2027
Evaluation Procedures and Schedules:
The Model United Nations Assistant will be evaluated throughout the academic year to ensure strong performance, professional growth, and alignment with the goals of the LIU Model UN program and the Roosevelt School. Students will be assessed in the following areas:

• Professionalism and communication
• Research and writing support
• Task accuracy and follow-through • Initiative and engagement
• Event and program support
• Collaboration with students, faculty, and staff
• Representation of LIU Model UN and the Roosevelt School
The evaluation process is developmental and designed to help the student build transferable skills in leadership, communication, organization, research, event management, and professional engagement.
