Summary: Performs diagnostic ultrasound procedures at a professional level. Performs a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment. Travel to other sites may be required.
Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Qualifications
Education and Experience : One year of diagnostic sonography experience preferred. Registry with ARRT and/or American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers Society preferred.
Certificates, Licenses and Registrations: American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography certification required. Current AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) American Heart Association Certification required.
Essential Functions:
Essential functions are those tasks, duties and responsibilities that comprise the means of accomplishing the job's purpose and objectives. Essential functions are critical or fundamental to the performance of the
job. They are the major functions for which the person in the job is held accountable. Note: (other duties may be assigned, deleted or changed at any time, at the discretion of management, formally, or
informally, either verbally or in writing).
1. Assist patients in preparation for radiology procedures. Explains procedures to patient/family
to gain cooperation and understanding.
2. Perform ultrasound exams using correct positioning, equipment and technical factors.
3. Utilize PACS systems to attain and store radiology images. Ensure patient demographics
match electronic radiology order and each image is accounted for.
4. Critique images and complete documentation in PACS network and electronic radiology order
to ensure the study is promptly and correctly available for the radiologist to interpret.
5. Utilizes Order Entry System to access orders and complete exams.
6. Obtain patient history, documents patient history and lab work results.
7. Select proper megahertz transducer for examination (i.e. department or part, nature of
pathology)
8. Assist Radiologist during physical examination, sonographic examination, or intervention
procedures.
9. Clean monitors and maintain ultrasound equipment (i.e. transducer, filter, gel bottles, laundry,
log books, etc)
10. Monitor equipment functioning; schedule preventive maintenance/ equipment repairs; report
malfunctions to management.
11. Monitor patient flow and adapt schedule according to shifting priorities.
12. Perform on-call duties as needed.
13. Train and assist other sonographers and ultrasound students.
14. Recognize deviations from standard practice/ procedures; initiate immediate action in a crisis
or emergency situation, and keep Chief radiologist informed.
15. Order and maintain ultrasound supplies.
16. Participate in the development, implementation and follow-through of departmental quality
improvement activities.
