Job description

UJA-Federation of NY is the world’s largest local philanthropy. Our headquarters is in the 130 E 59th Street Building. If you are a hardworking maintenance professional dedicated to ensuring colleagues are comfortable and able to work in a safe, clean, and orderly office, this opportunity may be a great role for you.

The Handyperson is responsible for maintaining the building premises, common areas, and other parts of the building envelope in a clean and orderly fashion and performing other work-related duties as assigned.

Major Responsibilities:

  • General cleaning of the building, sidewalks, lobby, machine rooms, roofs, glass, windows, restrooms, lobby, architectural metal, furniture, elevators, etc.
  • Sweeping, scrubbing, shoveling, mopping, shampooing, extraction, pressure washing, vacuuming and stain removal.
  • Lighting and other electrical work. Fixture installation and conversions.
  • Plumbing, carpentry, painting, locksmithing, furniture assembly, demo, and other day to day tasks as assigned.
  • Regularly check and clean bathrooms and replenish supplies.
  • Assist building engineers as needed.
  • Help with set-up of conference center meeting rooms when necessary.
  • Moving furniture and personnel including file boxes, modifying furniture set-ups, hanging pictures & posters, installing nameplates, etc.
  • Maintenance painting of building core areas and UJA office space.
  • Must be able to:
    • Push power cleaning appliances.
    • Lift a minimum of 50-75 pounds.
    • Climb stairs, work on ladders, fit in awkward positions.
    • Be flexible during emergencies.

 Competencies and Qualifications:

  • Minimum of three years’ experience. 
  • Must be responsive and courteous when dealing with tenants and UJA-Federation employees and guests. Must be team oriented.
  • Must have the ability to work with substances needed in cleaning and painting while using of personal protective equipment.
  • Must be proactive, follow directions, and be able to recognize problems and take appropriate course of action.
  • FDNY COFs highly preferred.
  • Must have basic to intermediate understanding of how to use a computer and smartphone devices.
  • The needs of the UJA and operation of the building are subject to change, therefore the duties of the candidate are not limited to the above responsibilities.

Reports To: Chief Engineer 

 Salary: $72,500
