Job description

Student Health Services - Immunizations (HIM):

UCF Health - Student Health Services (SHS) provides various primary and specialty care services to help keep students, faculty and staff at their optimum health. The Health Center is located on the Main Campus. Our services are designed with students, faculty and staff needs in mind. Become a part of our committed UCF Student Health Team as an Office Support Assistant and deliver outstanding care to our community.

The Opportunity:

Join the University of Central Florida's (UCF) Academic Health Sciences Center (AHSC) Student Health Team as an Medical Secretary I in the Health Information Management Department, and help support our commitment to providing excellent healthcare to the community we serve. The Medical Secretary I provides information to customers regarding UCF immunization policy and requirements, medical records release, and general international insurance requirements. This position provides daily guidance to student workers and ensures a smooth front desk operation of the Health Information Management and Compliance department.

Responsibilities:

  • Staff the reception desk for the Health Information Management department, facilitate the flow of students and patients, and provide exceptional customer service to ensure a positive experience.

  • Interpret State University System (SUS) immunization policies for incoming students, address inquiries regarding requirements, and provide necessary immunization forms. Update and disseminate all pertinent immunization requirement information to student and parents.

  • Conduct one-on-one training and ongoing development of new student staff (OPS, Federal Work Study), while reviewing student staff assignments to ensure quality assurance.

  • Attend and assist with new student orientations and assist with the registration process.

  • Upload immunization forms into the electronic medical record (EMR) system.

  • Maintain ongoing on-line compliance by verifying immunizations for transient students in the Florida Shines database with the UCF Registrar's Office.

  • Perform all duties as assigned by the Manager, Health Office, or designee. Timely completion of all required university, AHSC, and SHS Trainings.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or Equivalent and 0+ years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience training and supporting student staff or part-time team members.

  • Skilled in using Microsoft Office applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

  • Familiarity with electronic medical record (EMR) systems for uploading and managing health documentation.

  • Experience working within a reception or front-desk environment.

The most successful candidates will have the following qualities:

  • Ability to communicate and work alongside clinic staff, students, patients, and visitors in an effective and professional manner.

  • Keen attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to maintain confidentiality.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
