Overview
Responsible for assisting in the advancement of Mastec Renewables geomatics and surveying operations through the skilled use of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS). This position requires strong technical and communication abilities and a passion for enhancing business processes within the renewable energy sector. This position will safely operate the Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) on assigned projects to ensure necessary data collection. Knowing and following FAA rules and regulations is crucial and the operators must be able to operate in a safe and effective manner.
Travel: This position may travel up to 100% of the time; but not stationed at a specific job for long.

Responsibilities
Essential Job Functions:
  • Set up and operate UAS equipment for various tasks, including LiDAR, photogrammetry, and orthomosaic mapping
  • Ensure all equipment, such as propellers, batteries, and other accessories are well-maintained
  • Conduct flight operations in strict adherence to federal safety guidelines
  • Operate and maintain utility terrain vehicles and other field equipment as needed
  • Stay current with local, state, and federal regulations, particularly regarding FAA compliance
  • Ensure all UAS activities meet applicable laws, codes, and safety standards
  • Partner with UAS Management or Sr Pilot to secure necessary permits and approvals for surveying operations
  • Maintain an up-to-date Part 107 certification and ensure ongoing compliance with recurrent training requirements
  • Facilitate clear and effective communication between surveying teams and project management
  • Work closely with survey team and project management to provide accurate and timely information, offer regular progress updates, identify challenges, and propose solutions
  • Be prepared to adjust responsibilities based on evolving project requirements, organizational needs, and industry dynamics
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications
Education and Work Experience Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Associates or Bachelor's degree in Geomatics, Surveying, Geospatial Science, Aviation, or a related field preferred
  • Minimum of two to three years of experience in UAS operations, surveying, or a related field
  • FAA Part 107 Certification (current and recurrent)
  • Experience in operating UAS for geospatial data collection, including tasks like LiDAR, photogrammetry, and orthomosaic mapping
  • Experience in the renewable energy sector or large-scale construction projects preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
  • Proficient in UAS operations, including experience with LiDAR, photogrammetry, and orthomosaic technologies
  • Strong understanding of GPS and GNSS systems, and their integration with UAS operations
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and technical schematics
  • Proficient in computer use, including file management, geospatial software, and data processing tools
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to clearly document processes, create reports, and provide detailed feedback to teams
  • Strong attention to detail and problem solving skills
  • Positive attitude and strong work ethic
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to be flexible and take a proactive approach

Working Environment:
  • Regularly exposed to outside weather conditions
  • Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; and extreme heat
  • Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually loud
