What is a TypeScript LLM?

TypeScript LLMs refer to the integration and use of large language models (LLMs) within TypeScript-based projects. These models, such as OpenAI's GPT, are accessed through APIs and can be used to process language tasks like text generation, code completion, or natural language understanding within TypeScript applications. Developers often use client libraries or SDKs that allow seamless communication between their TypeScript code and the LLM. This enables building intelligent features directly into web and server-side applications written in TypeScript.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a TypeScript LLM engineer?

To thrive as a TypeScript LLM Engineer, you need strong proficiency in TypeScript, JavaScript, and foundational knowledge of large language models (LLMs), usually supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with popular LLM frameworks (such as Hugging Face Transformers), RESTful APIs, version control systems like Git, and cloud platforms is typically expected. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills help individuals excel in collaborative and rapidly evolving environments. These skills and qualifications ensure robust code quality, effective integration of AI models, and successful project outcomes in the dynamic field of AI development.

What are common challenges faced by a TypeScript LLM developer when integrating large language models into existing applications?

Typescript LLM developers often face challenges such as ensuring seamless interoperability between TypeScript code and language model APIs, managing data privacy and security, and optimizing performance for real-time responses. Additionally, handling model updates or changes in API endpoints can introduce breaking changes that need careful version control and testing. Collaborating closely with product managers and backend engineers is crucial to align model outputs with business requirements and maintain a smooth user experience.

What is the difference between Typescript Llm vs Frontend Developer?

AspectTypescript LlmFrontend Developer
Required SkillsProficiency in TypeScript, machine learning concepts, AI model integrationHTML, CSS, JavaScript, UI/UX design
Work EnvironmentTech companies, AI research labs, software development firmsWeb development agencies, tech companies, startups
CertificationsTypeScript certifications, AI/machine learning coursesWeb development certifications, JavaScript/HTML/CSS courses
Industry UsageAI-driven applications, software tools involving language modelsWebsite interfaces, web applications, user-facing platforms

While Typescript Llm specialists focus on integrating language models with TypeScript in AI applications, Frontend Developers primarily build and design user interfaces using web technologies. Both roles require technical skills but differ in their focus areas and industry applications.

Job description

Building LLM evaluation benchmarks and AI dev tools tied to vibe-coding benchmarking; directly involved in evaluating model behavior.

About the Role

Join Vals AI as a platform engineer responsible for building and owning the scalable infrastructure that runs LLM evaluation benchmarks. The role spans distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, backend libraries, and full‑stack features (Python/Django backend and React/TypeScript frontend) on an in‑person team based in San Francisco.

Role

Member of Technical Staff - Platform responsible for owning and developing the platform that runs large-scale LLM benchmarks. You will build and maintain distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, internal and public libraries, and full-stack features to evaluate models reliably and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build distributed systems to run evaluations across multiple models, benchmarks, and machines at scale.
  • Deploy cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code, including pipelines, servers, logging, and monitoring.
  • Develop and maintain internal and external libraries, including the public model library.
  • Implement full-stack platform features using React/TypeScript on the frontend and Python/Django on the backend.
  • Perform code and architecture reviews and help establish engineering best practices.
  • Collaborate closely with research to ensure infrastructure meets evaluation needs.
Requirements Technical
  • Strong engineering fundamentals with track record of building and shipping substantial projects.
  • Significant professional experience with Python.
  • System design experience and familiarity with VMs, containerization, load balancers, databases, etc.
  • Familiarity with LLMs and experience working with LLM APIs and concepts like temperature and tokenization.
Non-technical
  • Experience with development sprints, Git workflows, and pull request reviews.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and feedback skills (e.g., design docs).
  • Comfort with ambiguity and ability to decompose fuzzy problems.
  • High iteration speed and an ownership mindset.
Nice to Haves
  • Frontend development experience, ideally React.
  • Experience with Django, FastAPI, or other Python HTTP servers.
  • Experience with AWS infrastructure and IaC.
  • Early-stage startup experience or having run your own company.
  • Interest in AI/ML systems and evaluation.

Python, Django backend, React + TypeScript frontend, AWS infrastructure using CDK for IaC.

Location

This is an in-person role based in San Francisco. The company will support relocation or transportation as needed.

  • Compensation range: $140,000 - $185,000.
  • Relocation and transportation support; $1,500 housing stipend (within one-mile radius).
  • Health and dental insurance coverage; 401K plan.
  • Lunch and dinner provided, free snacks/coffee/drinks.
  • Unlimited PTO; meaningful ownership/equity.
