Job description

Job Summary
Teen Program Leaders are the direct service providers of the Twilight Center program. Leaders are responsible for continuous teen engagement through the facilitation of programs and activities.
This position is for Southside Twilight Centers. Applicants are expected to work all days listed.
Hours of Operations:
South and Pulaski: 5:15 pm - 9:15 pm on Monday - Friday
Bay View: 4:45 pm - 8:45 pm on Monday - Friday
*Staff must be available for Manditory Workdays which are once-twice a season
Position Summary
  • Enforce all Milwaukee Public Schools and Milwaukee Recreation policies and rules.
  • Understand and abide by all policies and procedures outlined in the Part-Time Employee Manual.
  • Working knowledge of Twilight Center policies, procedures, programs, and services.
  • Actively promote and recruit participants for the Twilight centers program, including field trips and special events.
  • Lead and engage participants in a variety of games, sports, arts, and contests.
  • Assist with planning field trips and special events.
  • Assist building staff with monitoring of facility and other administrative duties, as assigned.
  • Maintain constant surveillance of assigned area.
  • Assist with implementation of Emergency Procedures (per MPS Recreation policy), as needed.
  • Setup and break down program areas.
  • Effectively communicate with participants/patrons, Recreation Supervisors, Part-Time Recreation Staff, Building Engineers, and Principals, or designee (where applicable).
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

Job Requirements
  • 18 years of age or older.
  • Able to meet the scheduling needs required for this position.
  • Access to reliable transportation.
  • Able to lift up to 40lbs continuously.

Preferred Experience
  • Experience organizing and/or leading sports, arts & crafts, dance, and/or drama activities.
  • Previous work experience in a public setting with a diverse population.
  • CPR/First Aid training/certification.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Ability to effectively communicate with participants, parents, and staff.
  • Ability to foster positive working relationships.
  • Ability to relate to and empathize with teen issues and deescalate conflicts.
  • Excellent decision making skills and ability to carry out verbal and written instructions.

Working Environment
This environment includes walking, climbing, standing for long periods of time, and possible loud noises when exposed to activities in the gym or similar environment. Staff will be required to supervise groups of children and adults as well as assist in the accommodation of children and/or adults with disabilities (within parameters of provided training).
