Position Summary

The Weather Channel is searching for our next great storyteller. TWC seeks a Multimedia Journalist (MMJ) | Field Producer with fully developed reporting, producing, writing and communication skills. The ideal candidate is a creative and energetic storyteller passionate about the weather and climate.

The ideal candidate must research and write creative, conversational content proficiently. This individual will also be required to shoot, produce, conduct interviews and edit TV and digital content based on weather, climate, and news. Applicants must have strong storytelling skills that translate across multiple platforms and must be able to pitch stories ideas and concepts. Ideal candidates must be able to travel at short notice and will also lead a team as a field producer during severe weather situations. Off-camera work required.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Produce show segments, weather news packages, series and feature stories

  • Live television production experience and experience working with on-camera personalities

  • Ability to conceive, outline, plan, shoot, write, and assemble short and long-form projects

  • Exhibit excellent communication skills by talking with producers, assignment desk and newsroom leadership to execute cross-platform coverage of major weather events, breaking news coverage and human interest stories

  • Report in extreme weather conditions and excel in compelling taped storytelling content

  • Must be willing to travel on short notice, work long hours and stay in the field for extended coverage during severe weather

  • Must be able to field produce for meteorologists and correspondents in major live events

  • Ability to be a self-starter and work in a fast-paced environment

  • Must be able to work in a team environment, under pressure while maintaining calm outside the box thinking and new ways of presenting live-saving information

  • Passion for weather required


Education, Experience, and Certification Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism, Communications or related field

  • Minimum of three (3) years experience at a major news network, affiliate or live OTT news service

  • Must have expert-level expertise in digital and social media platforms


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong editorial background with a keen sense of storytelling, research and story ideation

  • Proficiency in utilizing AI tools for content creation and experience using them for production

  • Live television production experience with the ability to meet deadlines, especially in severe weather conditions

  • Shooting and editing video for live TV, digital, and packages preferred

  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to work under pressure

  • Detail-oriented multitasker with the ability to make decisions both independently and in a team environment

  • Experience working with on-camera personalities and remote transmission knowledge and protocol
