Job Summary/Description:
Do you have the energy to lead a weekend morning team and the drive to uncover the stories that matter most to the Quad Cities? We're looking for a versatile Anchor/Reporter who can own the desk on Saturday and Sunday mornings and hit the streets as a powerhouse reporter during the week. This isn't just about reading a teleprompter; it's about leading a team, producing with purpose, and hosting meaningful community conversations that reflect the diverse experiences of our viewers. If you're a team player who thrives in a multi-platform newsroom and wants to make a real impact-both on-air and online-we want to talk to you.
Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Lead the weekend morning team: Own the anchor desk on weekend mornings with energy and authority, setting the tone for the Quad Cities' day.
- Report with urgency: Spend three days a week in the field, uncovering original stories and delivering compelling reports across TV, digital, and social platforms.
- Produce with purpose: Use your producing skills to collaborate with and support the weekend producer, ensuring every newscast is tight, informative, and engaging.
- Host "Real Conversations": Lead KWQCs' weekly show discussing the Black Experience in the Quad Cities, leading thoughtful and impactful community dialogues.
- Own the digital space: Drive engagement by sharing your stories and connecting with the audience on social media and KWQC's digital platforms.
- Collaborate across the newsroom: Work closely with producers, photographers, and digital staff to ensure our coverage is cohesive and first-to-market.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Ability to help produce/guide the producer on what to put in a newscast every day
- Able to shoot, write, and edit your own stories
- Pitch stories that matter to the community
- Source your own contacts for story ideas
- Ability to work ahead so you are always pre-planning story ideas
- Killer news judgment: You know what stories matter to Davenport and the surrounding communities and how to tell them with empathy and urgency.
