What jobs will no longer exist in 2030?

For a TV guide-related job, traditional roles such as print TV listings or manual scheduling jobs are likely to disappear as digital and automated scheduling tools become more advanced. Jobs involving manual content curation may decline as AI and machine learning automate programming decisions and guide updates. Adaptation to new technologies and skills in digital content management will be essential for future roles in this field.

What is a TV guide?

A TV guide is a resource that provides information about television programming, including schedules, channels, show descriptions, and air times. It helps viewers plan what to watch by listing upcoming shows, movies, and special events on various TV networks. TV guides are available in print, online, and through interactive electronic program guides on televisions or streaming devices. They often include features such as recommendations, reviews, and the ability to set reminders for favorite programs.

What is the difference between Tv Guide vs Broadcast Technician?

How to become a TV reviewer?

To become a TV reviewer, develop strong writing and critical analysis skills, often through a background in journalism, media studies, or related fields. Build a portfolio by regularly reviewing shows on personal blogs or social media, and gain familiarity with industry tools like media databases and review platforms. Networking with media outlets and understanding copyright and fair use policies can also help establish a career in TV reviewing.

What are the main challenges faced by TV Guide editors when keeping schedules accurate and up to date?

TV Guide editors often face the challenge of managing last-minute programming changes, such as live events running over time or networks making sudden schedule adjustments. Staying in close communication with broadcasters and leveraging reliable scheduling software are essential to ensure accuracy. Editors must also carefully fact-check information and work efficiently under tight deadlines to minimize errors, as even small inaccuracies can impact readers' viewing plans. This role requires exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills to keep pace with the fast-moving television industry.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a TV Guide, and why are they important?

To thrive as a TV Guide Editor or Listings Coordinator, you need strong editorial skills, attention to detail, and a solid understanding of television programming, often supported by a degree in communications, journalism, or a related field. Familiarity with content management systems (CMS), scheduling software, and databases is typically required. Excellent organizational skills, adaptability, and clear communication help ensure accuracy and timely updates in a fast-paced environment. These skills are crucial for delivering reliable, user-friendly TV schedules to audiences and maintaining the publication's reputation.

What job pays you to watch TV?

A TV guide or TV reviewer can earn money by watching and analyzing television programs, often for media companies, streaming services, or as part of content curation. These roles may require strong attention to detail, knowledge of media, and sometimes a background in journalism or media studies.

Are TV guides still a thing?

TV guides, once printed publications or TV channel listings, have largely transitioned to digital formats such as online guides and streaming app interfaces. TV guide jobs may involve updating digital schedules or managing electronic listings, which remain relevant in the broadcasting and media industries.

Job description

Teamwork makes the stream work.
Roku is changing how the world watches TV
Roku is the #1 TV streaming platform in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, and we've set our sights on powering every television in the world. Roku pioneered streaming to the TV. Our mission is to be the TV streaming platform that connects the entire TV ecosystem. We connect consumers to the content they love, enable content publishers to build and monetize large audiences, and provide advertisers unique capabilities to engage consumers.
From your first day at Roku, you'll make a valuable - and valued - contribution. We're a fast-growing public company where no one is a bystander. We offer you the opportunity to delight millions of TV streamers around the world while gaining meaningful experience across a variety of disciplines.
What does the team work on?
Platform Operations is a department focused on VOD and Live content ingestion as well as the automated onboarding and payouts of the Content Partners themselves. This content is inclusive of first party on demand and live streaming content, as well as deep links out to third party content partner services. There are multiple departments supporting different aspects of this workflow, but ultimately everyone is dedicated to ensuring content and partners are flowing through our infrastructure pipeline and that all content is playing back properly for end users. The department facilitates the systems architecture, infrastructure, tooling and business processes for the delivery and maintenance of content with a core focus on optimal user experience and monetization.
What is the role?
The Systems Operations Associate facilitates the delivery of scalable process and product enhancements to Roku's content pipeline on behalf of key business stakeholders focused on business operations and service components. This role ladders up to the Platform Business & Revenue Operations group, which drives the vision, alignment, and execution of cross-functional workflows, tooling, and infrastructure needs for the content platform. The individual contributor serves as a subject matter expert of Roku's technology and business solutions owned and leveraged by the business operations department, supporting all aspects of change management related to feature releases and new process changes in partnership with business stakeholders. The Systems Operations Associate acts as the core liaison between business stakeholders and Roku's product and engineering teams, combining both technical and business functions that require strong organizational and communication skills. This fast-paced environment requires the ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision, and success depends on strong attention to detail, effective prioritization, and clear cross-functional communication.
How will I use AI at Roku?
At Roku, we don't just use AI, we work with it. AI agents and smart tools help power drafts, analysis, and repetitive workflows, while our people bring direction, judgment, and accountability.
We value curious, adaptable builders, who can show how they've used AI, agents, or automation to move faster, improve quality, and scale their impact. Strong candidates know how to frame problems, guide AI-assisted work, check the output, and learn quickly. Above all, they bring curiosity, adaptability, and sound judgment.
What are the responsibilities of the role?
  • p]:inline" data-streamdown="list-item">Serve as a partner to business stakeholders and technical teams, understanding their workflows to identify opportunities for improved data accuracy, consolidation, and process efficiency
  • p]:inline" data-streamdown="list-item">Own the accuracy and integrity of business operations data across core systems, ensuring stakeholders are working from a single, reliable source of truth
  • p]:inline" data-streamdown="list-item">Support data governance and compliance requirements, including SOX and audit readiness, in partnership with legal, finance, and product teams
  • p]:inline" data-streamdown="list-item">Complete quarterly gap analyses of as-is and to-be processes, translating findings into functional specifications for product and engineering
  • p]:inline" data-streamdown="list-item">Collaborate with product and engineering leadership to design and improve in-house systems supporting business operations reporting, data consolidation, and workflow automation
  • p]:inline" data-streamdown="list-item">Participate in sprint planning to prioritize enhancements and net-new feature requests across owned product roadmaps
  • p]:inline" data-streamdown="list-item">Identify manual, error-prone, or duplicative workflows and drive automation initiatives that reduce risk and increase operational throughput
  • p]:inline" data-streamdown="list-item">Support stakeholders in testing and validation of new product features, data models, and workflows
  • p]:inline" data-streamdown="list-item">Develop and maintain documentation and training materials to support rollouts and drive tool adoption
  • p]:inline" data-streamdown="list-item">Maintain familiarity with upstream and downstream system integrations and assess how feature enhancements or data changes may impact business operations
  • p]:inline" data-streamdown="list-item">Support the maintenance of business and operational documentation in partnership with product and engineering counterparts

What experience would help someone be successful in this role at Roku?
  • p]:inline" data-streamdown="list-item">2-3 years of experience in business operations, systems operations, or a related analytical/operational role
  • p]:inline" data-streamdown="list-item">Experience with Salesforce, NetSuite, or other CRM/ERP systems
  • p]:inline" data-streamdown="list-item">Experience with data governance, data quality management, and SOX or similar compliance frameworks
  • p]:inline" data-streamdown="list-item">Experience supporting new product or feature launches requiring collaboration across cross-functional teams
  • p]:inline" data-streamdown="list-item">Comfort leveraging ticketing systems, reports, and dashboards (JIRA or Salesforce experience a plus)
  • p]:inline" data-streamdown="list-item">Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate between technical and non-technical audiences
  • p]:inline" data-streamdown="list-item">Advanced Excel/data analysis skills; experience with BI or data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Looker) a plus
  • p]:inline" data-streamdown="list-item">Self-organized with a structured, detail-oriented approach to workflows and problem-solving
  • p]:inline" data-streamdown="list-item">Bachelor's degree in business, computer science, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience

What should I know about Roku's culture?
Roku is a great place for people who want to work in a fast-paced environment where everyone is focused on the company's success rather than their own. We try to surround ourselves with people who are great at their jobs, who are easy to work with, and who keep their egos in check. We appreciate a sense of humor. We believe a fewer number of very talented folks can do more for less cost than a larger number of less talented teams. We're independent thinkers with big ideas who act boldly, move fast and accomplish extraordinary things through collaboration and trust. In short, at Roku you'll be part of a company that's changing how the world watches TV.
We have a unique culture that we are proud of. We think of ourselves primarily as problem-solvers, which itself is a two-part idea. We come up with the solution, but the solution isn't real until it is built and delivered to the customer. That penchant for action gives us a pragmatic approach to innovation, one that has served us well since 2002.
